I am that happy fool,
jester to a heartless world
that has no place for laughter,
a world obsessed with greed and fame,
where no one else
deserves that gift
of happily ever after.
I am that happy fool,
who sees the brightness
on the darkest day,
impervious to all the news
and all the brilliant prophets,
no matter what they say.
I am the happy fool
who sees the best in fellow man
despite the horrors daily seen,
and struggles suffered and endured.
My silly smile remains secure,
as it has ever been.
I am that happy fool
who does not fear
the pains of heartbreak or of death,
who chooses rather
the glory of each new day
and drawing of each joyous breath.
I am that happy fool,
that happy fool is me,
and there is nothing in this world,
that I would rather be.
