New Beginnings

Today is it. Today is the day I get to start over. Start over again, at a new school, a new year, new people. A lot of people I don't know. I've never really been a people person and would be considered an introvert.

I sit up in bed after laying there for a few minutes letting myself procrastinate. I'm not exactly excited to start my first day at a new school.

I sigh. "What should I wear today?" Maybe something casual, so I don't draw attention to myself. I grab a pair of black skinny jeans with rips in the thigh going down the pant leg. I throw them on along with a tshirt that has a few characters from my favorite anime. I look in the mirror wondering if I really want to wear this for the first day. I shake my head and pull off the shirt tossing it on my bed. I grab a camisole tank from my closet. It's chilly today, I'll just wear this with a hoodie over it.

I walk into the bathroom and look in the mirror. I didn't get much sleep the night before from having anxiety about today. I splash water on my face then apply some mascara.

"There. Now I won't look so tired... maybe" I throw on my hoodie then grab my shoes and my backpack and walk downstairs to the living room. My mom sits on the couch in front of the tv with a blanket on her and a cup of coffee in her hand. She always watches the morning news before she goes off to work.

"Good morning, honey" she says looking at me smiling.

"Hey mom," I smile back.
"Are you ready for today?
"Not really. But do I have a choice?" I asked. Some part of me hoping she wouldn't make me go.

"I'm sorry, Raven." My mom says, playing with my hair. She kisses my forehead. "Don't miss the bus."
I sighed and put on my high top vans. "Love you mom." I grabbed my backpack and walked out the door.
"Here I go.." I mumble to myself and start towards the bus stop.

After getting off the bus at school I walk to the main office to pick up my schedule. I stand behind a few other students and wait my turn in line.

Finally I'm next. I walk up to the desk and behind it is a women with short hair and glasses like a creepy old librarian. She looks at me over her glasses.

"Can I help you?" She says in a monotone voice.
"I- I uh need to pick up my schedule. I'm new."
"Name?"
"Raven. Raven Macias."
She begins typing on her keyboard then walks over to the printer grabbing a paper.
"Mmm, here you go. Now hurry off. The bell is about to ring."
I take the paper and turn around waking out of the office. I stand to the side and lean against the wall looking at my schedule.

1st period Math Mr. Brown Rm. 212

Great. I thought to myself. Of course my first period has to be math.

I look around hoping I could figure out how to find room 212 on my own. I start walking down a hallway looking down at my paper. Suddenly I feel a body run into mine.

"Ow! Watch where you're going! Geez." Says a girl. She is about my height, straight brown hair that hangs just below her shoulders.

"I'm sorry! I don't really know where I'm going." I say nervously.

She looks at me studying me like she's trying to see if I ran into her on purpose or I'm actually telling the truth.

"Hmm. So you're a new girl." New girl. I hate being called that.

"Yeah. Today's my first day."
She grabs my paper from my hand. "Ew math." She says giggling.
"Uhh yeah?"
"Hey we have the same teacher. Come on. I'll show you." She hands me back my paper and we start walking towards the classroom.
"Oh by the way, my name is Alyssa."
"I'm Raven."
"Raven? Like the bird?"
I roll my eyes thankful she can't see my face expressions. "Yes. Like the bird." I've talked to this girl not even ten minutes and she's already annoying. Great. I'm really not going to have any friends. I don't need friends anyways. I'll just focus on myself and my grades this year.
