Chapter 1

Kriti's POV

He twirls me around as our song plays in the background. He wraps his hands around my waist as he smiles and sings along softly. We continue to dance under the midnight blue sky until we are too tired to move. We sit down next to each other on the grassy hill overlooking the city, my head on his shoulder, his hands tightly around me. I shiver as it begins to drizzle and without a second thought, he takes his hoodie off and passes it to me. I put it on, blushing. He lies down, still holding me securely. We look into each other's eyes as romantic songs play. His grip around me tightens as closes his deep eyes, leans in and-

I'm abruptly shaken from my daydream as I hear an angry aunty downstairs yelling with some shopkeeper about a discount. I slammed the book shut, frustrated. This test was going to be the end of me.

After trying to focus on Engineering revision for my test on Tuesday but failing as I imagine more scenarios for another 30 minutes, I decide to ask Disha if she has made any notes that I can copy, I mean use to help me study.

"Ki, I'm going to their house," I tell Kiara, one of my best friends and my roommate.

"Hang on, I'll come with you, I'm bored," she says, quickly jumping up.

Our other best friends, Shraddha, Disha, and Alia, live right next door to us, and the guys live 2 buildings away, and we're all always at each other's apartments.

We use our key to go in only to find the house empty. "Where is everyone? Sab ke sab mar gaye hai kya? (did everyone die)" Kiara asks.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Alia dragged them on one of her 'adventures' and got them kidnapped or some shit", I say sarcastically. We look everywhere in the apartment for them but they are nowhere to be seen. After 10 minutes we give up and end up going back home.

As I lay in my bed, all the scenarios come flooding back to me. I shut my eyes and the last thing I imagine is a face... someone familiar... but unknown...

Shraddha's POV

Oh my god! I will never understand what goes through this girl's head! WHY am I still friends with her? Alia Bhatt, unfortunately, one of my best friends, had once again tried to take us on an "adventure." Her brilliant plan this time was to try to be Spiderman and do parkour on the rooftops of buildings! I'm not even kidding, she tried to jump from one rooftop to the other and fell into the top floor balcony of the building and broke the owner's favourite chair! Turns out the man living inside was about 80 years old and he didn't let her leave until she cleaned his entire house! It was so funny, but the best part was she managed to swipe some chocolate for us as she left. I swear she's always on crack or something. Oh right, that's why I'm still friends with her.

I decide to go see Varun because one of his old friends had just moved to Mumbai from London this evening and was going to be living with him because Sid was in Kashmir for a few months! I don't know why, but I suddenly felt really nervous and excited as I climbed up the stairs of his building. As I got to his floor, I saw a guy standing outside his door with a few large suitcases. 'Is this their new roommate? Didn't he get here at like 6 pm? Why is he standing outside like that? Varun said he was going to be home.' I thought to myself, walking to the man. I tapped him on the shoulder, "Hey! Are you Varun's new r-" I was cut off as he turned around. Immediately, my stomach went all fluttery and I think I turned a little red as I looked down. I looked back up to meet his deep, light brown eyes and tried to calm down. He was about a head taller than me, very muscular, and extremely attractive. "Roommate? Yeah, hey, I'm Tiger, Tiger Shroff. Is this the right house?" He asked me softly. "Hi, I'm Shraddha, and yeah it is," I replied, recovering myself.

"I've been outside here for like 2 hours, and no one's opening the door, and the doorbell looks like it's been smashed in, so I don't think it works. Varun's not answering his phone either."

"What the hell, let's go inside, I have the keys," I say, my stomach churning as I open the door. I don't have a good feeling about this.

How very right I was. We are welcomed to the sound of a massive crash coming from Varun's bedroom, followed by an angry yell. We run into the room and what I find completely shocks me. Lying on the floor, surrounded by glass and destruction is Varun, his face red, his eyes puffy. "Varun!" we both yell as we run to him, the glass crunching under our shoes. I try to hug him but he continuously pushes me away. My heart's beating so fast. In all the years I've known Varun, never have I seen him like this, and it is scaring the shit out of me. Tiger looks completely taken aback too, poor guy. Definitely not a great welcome to the city. Together, we move Varun, who seems to have fallen into an uncomfortable sleep on the floor, onto his bed. Turning the light off, we go back outside and sit on the sofa.

"So is he a crack addict now or something?! I thought he was a sane guy, I mean to be fair I haven't met him since we were like 8 but he was really nice then, I think?"

"Tig-"

"Anyways he still seemed cool on the phone, I didn't know he was gonna be like this though, I mean is he some sort of zebra?"

"Wha-"

"I don't know why I just said zebra, I'm Tiger by the way, did I already say that?"

"Ye-"

Isn't the other guy that lives here in the army? Shouldn't he have been a better influence on him then? Or Is he a zebra too? What is WRONG with me!?

"Calm-"

"You're really pretty by the way, what did you say your name was? Sushmita? No... Samira?"

"Actually it's Shr-"

"God was moving here a mistake!?"

'TIGER!" I yell finally, grabbing onto his hand.

"I'm sorry, I'm not usually this crazy," he says, turning red and looking down.

"Don't be. I've got no idea what's going on either. I've known Varun all my life and I've never seen him act like this. He's actually a really great guy, we're just going to have to wait for him to explain what the hell's wrong. Also, the name is Shraddha, don't forget that. Oh, and no, I highly doubt that he's a zebra." I say, finishing with a smile, still holding his hand and stroking it to calm him down. He smiles in response, his entrancing eyes lighting up. "Have you eaten?"

"No, I haven't, you?"

"Nah, I'm starving though, let's-"

"Hi," Varun says grimly, walking out.
