Reminisce

I picked up the picture frame as a sipped my morning coffee. A couple of years had gone by and it was hard to believe that so much time had gone by. My face showed a small smile as I remembered that night. It was the first time that I felt like I was truly happy. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as I reminisced that night and how it made me feel. I sat on the couch and thought about how our story started.

It was a month before senior year ended when we first started talking. Catie and I had just gotten out of class and were walking towards the other end of the school for practice. This was our daily routine. We were chatting about how terrible class was when I heard someone calling out my name.
"'Mia! Wait up!"
I turned around and caught you running toward me with your derpy little smile on your face as if you were a little kid who was just given candy.
"Hey what's up Justin?"
"Do you think you can give me a ride home? Please?"
You begged me with puppy dog eyes and I remember thinking that it was ridiculous that you thought that would work.
"You know you don't have to look at me like that just to get me to do something. Plus it makes you look ugly," I said while walking away.
"'Mia don't be mean! I have no other way home"
You started to run after me and placed your arm over my shoulder.
"I'll buy you lunch on our way home. I know that you're hungry," you said with those same eyes and small smirk. It's almost like you knew that would get me to say yes.
I rolled my eyes and gave in. "Fine but meet me outside after practice," I sighed.
You threw your arms around me and I couldn't help but laugh. I was surprised when you lifted me up and spinned me around.
You ran off but looked back and shouted, "you're the best!"
Catie was just watching all this unfold in front of her. I had totally forgotten she was there.
"You and Justin seem really close. I didn't realize you knew him that well"
"We've been friends since we were little and I swear his mom wants me to marry him," I said as I continued to walk towards the tennis courts. "He really just is a good friend. More like a brother to me than anything."
She just smiled and we made our way yo the courts.

Once practice was over we made our way to the front of the gym by the parking lots. This was the best place to be especially since the weather was starting to change into the unbearable heat. We chatted loudly and laughed about all the stupid stuff we always talked about, occasionally silence would come over us when we really needed to catch our breath and relax our aching stomachs. It was during one of those breaks that I saw you walking up. It was pretty funny. I never really realized how much you've changed. I remember you being that Asian with the bowl haircut and braces. I remember just staring at you (as creepy as that sounds) and just noticing all the changes. The one thing I really noticed was the body. You filled out nicely. I could see the muscles on your arms and your legs looked very toned. I then noticed your face, hair, and teeth. For one, you didn't have that ugly bowl cut hair, you cut it nicely into a little sweep over haircut. You were so much tanner than I remember. Probably because of swim practice. Joining a sport really did you well. The biggest change was the teeth! You didn't have braces anymore. At that point I was just really confused. I didn't think I would ever think this about you.

I turned over to Catie and asked, "is it just me, or did Justin Anderson get cuter?"
Before she could answer you reached us and said "ready to go?"
I looked over at you and nodded my head and we walked over to my car.
