Clouds drifted over the moon, blocking out any of the light left in the restless night. A soft breeze travelled through the forest of hollowed trees and the last leaves from the spring spiralled to the floor, landing to rest in their deathbeds on the ground amongst their many other fellow decaying leaves. Row upon row, the skeletal trees stood towering over a clearing, the subtle wind raised an eerie whistling sound from channelling through the hollow trees. The whistling grew louder yet remained only heard in the subconscious.
No life could be seen for miles, apart from in the mysterious clearing. A thin layer of fog hid the grass beneath and billowed around in a swirling manner. No plant had dared to grow in the clearing; all sensed death. Something seemed to move in the shadows around the edges of the clearing and even the thinning fog was scared away.
As the clouds retreated from the path of moonlight, beams of luminous light hit the clearing and the light twinkled in the reflection of the water. Ripples of water let the moonlight dance in the night and as it glistened ever brighter, everything seemed peaceful. But little did they know what was to happen...
Eyes snapping open, Ivy tried to breathe in the air but instead was left coughing on the pool water. Hurriedly, her head broke the water's surface and she rapidly took in the sharp night's air. Ivy stared around, eyes wide in panic. Where was she? How did she get here? What was going on? Her widespread searching looks were to no avail, it was all pitch black. The swallowing darkness gripped her throat.
A dazzling spotlight lit up and concentrated it's beam on her. The light was blinding. Ivy shielded the light from her eyes and looked down into the murky depths of the pool, but saw nothing but her disappearing body in the darkness.
Exhausted from trying to remain afloat, she tried to swim to what she hoped was the land but found her legs yanked back. She tried again but again was pulled backwards. Reaching down cautiously, Ivy felt a metal chain around her ankles and realised she was not getting out. Panic engulfed her mind and she struggled against the chains to get to any land she could find but the more she struggled, the more the chains pulled her back and further down into the watery depths. Escaping was not an option.
Realisation hit her, she would eventually run out of energy and that would be when death would take her. She didn't even know who had done this to her, or why. Ivy looked around in desperation and numerous figures had emerged from the outlining trees just enough for her to vaguely make them out. They all had their backs to her. Looking around, more figures with their backs to her emerged yet she never heard or saw them move.
Pulling desperately at the chain around her ankle, she unsuccessfully attempted to pull them off. She glanced up at where the figures were and her heart started pounding faster and faster. They had moved! When she wasn't looking, they had moved! Ivy's heart rate increased rapidly and she breathed in and out faster and faster. She couldn't look at them all at once! Frantically, she tried to look at them all, turning around and around but they only got closer and closer. While she was looking at one lot of them the others got closer. There was nothing she could do; chained down and running out of energy and time.
Suddenly a cold hand clutches her shoulder, Ivy spun around in the water; terrified. But what she saw was worse. The people no longer had their backs to her and she saw their faces. Ivy froze in horror, her heart seemed to have stopped, what filled her vision were hundreds upon hundreds of terrifying creatures of which she had never even imagined before let alone heard of. Their faces swam with horrific images and all their facial features were melting together, their bloodshot eyes glared into Ivy's soul; everything that they looked like were horrible, twisted, melted and disgustingly distorted. A scream seemed to echo from the creatures to her subconscious and it sapped away the remaining courage and hope she had left.
More and more of the petrifying creatures swarmed towards her, sending waves of water hitting the far off banks violently. They clawed at her profusely and held her under the water in an impregnable hold. Ivy struggled weakly against their hold but all her strength had long since vanished and now there was nothing she could do. She tried to scream, tried to get someone, if anyone, just to save her from her inevitable fate, but nothing came out except bubbles and no one came except more creatures. No one cared.
Finally it dawned on her, finally she accepted her fate, maybe giving up is the only way forward, for who knows; death is but the next greatest adventure.
Water filled her lungs. Darkness started to take a hold of her. Her vision began to fade. Her body begged for air but nothing came. The creatures still held her under.
However, Ivy could accept it; how could she just die, with no idea who had done this to her or why?
Unconsciousness began taking over her. She panicked. Her body was shaking, why was it so painful to die? She knew it would end soon but the water filling her lungs was causing infinite panic.
Ivy tried one last time, to reach the surface, to breathe in the night air, but it was to no avail, the creatures' grasp was too powerful. Darkness took her; Ivy fell unconscious.
