Beep! Beep! Beep! I awoke to my alarm clock, groaning in frustration as I rubbed my eyes. I'm so tired. I don't even remember falling asleep... It was Monday morning. Ugh! Back to school today. I had a crazy weekend with my aunty Sheryll. We had a barbecue with my cousin and his parents. I got out of bed, got changed, and then did my hair. It looked horrible when I got out of bed, so I decided to fix it. I sat on my bed, when I remembered my parents' death. My whole life changed that day. I slipped into a memory not forgotten...

"Summer! We're going to the city!", my mother yelled down the stairs.

"Okay, mom! I'm coming!" I yelled back.

I quickly threw on my greyish white hoodie, running out of my room, upstairs. I slipped my red and black sneakers on. Mom was waiting for me. My mother and I walked out of the door, locked it, and got into the already running car. My dad was waiting for us.

"Dad, could you switch the radio station to 93.7?" I asked.

"Of course, sweetheart" my dad answered, switching the radio station. I smiled happily, putting my belt buckle on.

Dad pulled out of the driveway. We drove out of the town we lived in onto the highway. I leaned to the right, seeing that we were nearing the intersection that led to the city nearby. In my personal opinion, it should be named Accident Corner. There has been so many accidents on this intersection, I hate it! It always scares me when we drive on it, but it's the only way to get to the city from town.

As we were driving around the corner of the intersection, one of the most horrifying experiences of my life happened. I looked out of the front window, seeing another car driving in the opposite direction. As I watched, I noticed the other driver had lost control. They then, before myself or my parents could react, collided head-first into our car. I flew forward, my head hitting the seat in front of me, being knocked unconscious. I awoke in a hospital bed in the city, my head throbbing from the impact; my body in all sorts of pain, before heading a strange feminine sounding voice.

"Um, Summer? Hi, sweetie..."

A nurse came into focus as she spoke, walking into my room before closing the door behind her. I looked at her, afraid and confused. I forgot why I was lying here, in a hospital bed. 'What has happened..?' I thought to myself.

"Hi, miss. What is it?" I asked in as calm a voice as I could manage.

"I have some... news... about your parents"

The nurse spoke in a soft, calm voice. She sounded too calm. I suddenly felt very worried. 'What news? Where are they?' I thought to myself.

"Yes?" I asked, worried. Something didn't feel right, but I couldn't grasp onto what it was.

"I'm so sorry, sweetie... They didn't make it" the nurse said with a saddened tone.

She had a look of sympathy on her face. My eyes widened in shock. The whole world around me shattered. My whole body felt numb. 'This can't be happening. No, no... Please don't let it be true' I thought to myself. I buried my face into my hands, quickly.

"What? They...They didn't make it? What do you mean they didn't make it? No, that's not fair!" I exclaimed, distraught. My eyes were starting to water from tears.

"No... I'm so sorry, Summer" she said softly with the same saddened tone as before.

Her words caused all kinds of emotions to flood over me as I broke down, not letting anyone touch me, letting out screams and wails of despair. I blocked out what they were saying as they gave me a sedative, the world fading to black.
