*in honor of It'll Be Okay releasing*
y/n's pov:
Shawn and I had been dating for a little over 2 years. Once covid started, Shawn wasn't able to go on tour and we were on a mandatory lockdown. We were in lockdown for months and during that time, we were able to get to know each other better.
Shawn had recently announced his upcoming tour and he was getting back to releasing music again. We started drifting apart. We communicated much less, and I began to question if what I was feeling was worth it. Things changed drastically for us.
*time skip to 2 weeks later*
Shawn and I had been arguing constantly. The conversation of how I truly felt hadn't been brought up yet and I knew that would break us.
shawn's pov
These last few weeks with y/n have been very different from what we were used to. I was busy planning my tour and writing new songs, which took up a lot of my time. Y/n gets so pissed off because I work so much, but it's my job.
I entered our shared penthouse, feeling a some odd tension in our home as I walked into the living room. I saw a pile of blankets on the couch, but y/n nowhere in site. As I begin to walk upstairs to see if she's in our room, I hear a voice coming from the bathroom.
"Shawn" she said a little bit louder than a whisper. I turn around and see her, bundled up in a sweatshirt and sweatpants. "Hi, my love" I say as I approach her, but she moves away. "We need to talk." she says in a soft voice. As we sit on the couch, she turns to me.
y/n: "I don't know anymore Shawn"
shawn: "What do you mean 'you dont know'?"
y/n: "For fucks sake, Shawn. I don't know about us anymore. You're never here. I missed going on dates with you but your work life is much more important to you than I am."
shawn: "You're kidding, right? Y/n you know I work hard for us. Yeah, my work is important, but you're worth so much more than that. I don't know how you can even think of saying that you'r not important compared to my work."
y/n: "Really, Shawn? You surely have a funny way of showing how important I am. Coming home and doing this exactly."
shawn: "You knew what you were getting into when we started dating. Hell, we dated for a few months before covid hit. You knew exactly what this was like. I don't know why it's so different now."
y/n: "Maybe it's because MY BOYFRIEND WON'T MAKE TIME FOR ME!"
I said nothing. I got up and left. I had so many emotions running through my head, melodies and lyrics revealing themselves in my mind. I went back to the studio spending the night writing my heart out.
"If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy
It'll be okay
If we can't stop the bleeding, we don't have to fix it
We don't have to stay
I will love you either way
It'll be o-, be okay"
That's what my heart is feeling at the moment. I truly don't know if this relationship can be salvaged in any way. Neither of us are making this better. The next morning, I go back to our shared apartment. I hear movement in the kitchen and as I enter, I see y/n looking at me with heavy eyes.
"We need to talk, y/n." I said quietly. She looks hesitant, but slowly walks towards the couch. "What?" she says, sounding slightly annoyed. "I was thinking about what you said last night, and I don't think I can do this. I'm tired of the fighting. I'm tired of having to keep my feelings buried inside because I wanted this to work. Trust me, I did." I say. She's just looking at me, waiting for me to finish.
"Y/n, if you want to leave, I won't be upset. We're broken and I don't think this can be fixed. Regardless, I will love you forever and you will always hold a special place in my heart." I finished, she had tears in her eyes.
"Shawn, I feel like we can't be saved. You were a major part of my life and I will love you forever. Right now, your career is making you extremely busy and that is what's tearing us apart. We cannot go on like this. I'll be moved out by tomorrow, to make this easier for us. Maybe we'll end up in each others lives again someday." she says sadly.
I walk up to her and hug her, and she reciprocates the hug. "I love you, y/n. Don't ever forget that." I whisper in her ear. "I love you too, Shawn" she says with a sniffle.
*1 month later*
It's been about a month since me and y/n broke up. It's been hard for me, and I'm sure the same for her. I've seen her at coffee shops, spotting each other immediately and giving a sad smile. I know it hurts, but it'll be okay.
a/n: this was my first chapter so leave me some feedback or requests for future chapters! on another note, this song literally broke me. i wasn't even half way through the song before I was bawling my eyes out. it's honestly a masterpiece.
