Chapter 1: Lazy People (Part 1)

[Harper]

I thought that today would be just like any other: get up, drink coffee, open the bookstore, do work, close the store, and sleep. But no, "he" just had to come today, the biggest nuisance of my life, Drew Ashtin, who looks "so goth" because of his black hair and hazel eyes, not to mention he almost always wears black clothes. I didn't even have to look at Ashley for her to know what was going on. Her shockingly dull green eyes sparkled. She started rolling up the newspaper that she always just magically seems to have with her and got prepared to stand up. I saw his smirk as he approached the front desk, which I of course was sitting at.

"Hey, Harper," he said, smiling brightly.

"Hi, Drew," I said naturally, too used to his greeting. "Try not to disturb anyone today."

"Got it," he sighed, sounding right in the middle of happy and unamused.

"Especially not me," I mumbled as he walked away.

"So. Yes or no?" Ashley asked, walking over to the desk.

"Only if he's being annoying..." I answered.

"He's only annoying to you," she remarked, her British accent making it seem like a sassy remark. "Besides, I just want to hit him."

I smiled slightly and watched as she sat back down, this time in a chair close to Drew. I leaned on the desk, my head resting on my arms as I watched them talk. I still don't understand how she can talk to him without murdering him (without him running away, too!) when I can't even stand seeing him.

"Welcome," I said instinctively as I heard the little bell on the door ring.

"What's wrong Harper? you look like you're in an even worse mood than usual!"

"Hunter?!" I said, as soon as I recognized his blond hair and green eyes and his fifteenth anime shirt, a Death Note one. He practically looked identical to me. , I mean we are brothers though "How come you aren't at your college?"

"We just took our finals," he said, laughing. "So I thought I might give my little brother a visit."

He pulled over a chair and sat down next to me.
"Did I come at the wrong time?" he asked as he pulled over a chair and sat down next to me.

"Kinda," I muttered.

"What's wrong? More people shipping you and Ashley?" Hunter asked.

"No it's the exact opposite," I said, " The person that Ashley ships me with is here, and she knows I hate him!"

"Anime Person!" she said, noticing Hunter. Ashley's obsessed with saying Anime Something to address Hunter. She came over to us. As I watched her talk to my brother, I noticed that Drew wasn't looking at his book anymore. He was staring at me!

Weird.

Weirdo.

Chapter 1: (Part 2) Lost Sister

[Harper]

I first spoke to Ashley when my sister entered the doorway to a... better place. We became quick best friends, you know. When Ashley offered to help me with the bookstore, I said yes. Why not? She reminds me of Hailey...

It all started a few years ago when Hailey and I moved to Brooksville and were starting 10th grade.

I think Hailey had no idea what it meant to love the same gender.
