Red

It was the colour red.
Of the chillies she had brought at the bazaar this morning.
It was the colour red.
Of the alta her sisters had put of their feet before giggling over to pandit rams dance lessons.
It was the colour red.
Of the sindur her mother had carefully outlined in the centre of her scalp {just like she would one day}.
It was the colour red.
Pooled between her legs at a time and place it shouldn't have been.
At corner of a galli and cloudy ringlets covering the moons innocence from this crime.
The colour red of her attackers drunk eyes.
The colour red of her purity now destroyed in bits.
The colour red. The last thing before she saw.
What followed next was all black.

A/N
•Alta is sort of an Indian tradition to put on the feet of dancers (something like red paint. It's always red)
•Pandit means priest
•Sindur is part of the marriage ceremony (wives wear it everyday after marriage traditionally)
•Galli is a street
