I stroll down what once was a dirt road, the wet green grass squeeks under my feet. My black horse trots alongside me. My name is Bee Sun Loveman. I am a painter in my town. My town's culture is very appreciative of painters, but for some reason I seem to be the only one. It's probably due to how small the town is. I am a stay at home worker, with my cousin Rose and my son, we keep eachother company. As we approach my town I think, What did we ever do to deserve this?
Our town- WaterMeadow -was attacked a month or two ago, leaving us in shambles, luckily my savings weren't stolen. But I know a lot of people who were robbed. The edges of the town were hit the hardest. The thieves went as far as burning houses down, which spread to houses more in the middle of the town. But Rose and I were out of town and our house was left unharmed besides the small black spot from the fire on one side of our cottage. After the incident a few people went missing, none of which have been found. The town thinks the people were killed or captured by the thieves. But I am not too sure.
"Bee!" Someone shouts.
I squint, trying to see who is calling me, but it is getting late and it is getting harder to see through the dark. A tall figure comes stumbling out of a bakery about a yard or two down the road. I set down my bags, focusing on the figure. My horse stops in confusion, looking to me for information that I don't give. Then my eyes adjust and I can see who was calling me, "Rose!" I call, sprinting toward her.
We almost crashed into each other, stopping just in time to quietly stand as we stared at each other.
Rose is wearing a brown cardigan, white ruffle shirt, a black corset, a belt with pockets, her blue jeans slightly ripped at the knees, with dark brown curly hair tied up in a messy ponytail, gold chain earrings connecting from ear to ear, and a gold cross necklace tied around her neck.
She blinks rapidly before being whipped back into reality and pulling me into a tight, loving hug, "I have only been gone for a week!" I exclaim, hugging her back.
She squeezes me tighter, "Exactly! 10 people came for your art and I had to turn them all down!" she says, pushing away and studying the bags behind me.
She frowns, "You are gonna have to go again, aren't you?" she asked sadly.
I look down, "Yeah, but only for a day or two, this one will be quicker, and this will be the last one before my break." I mumble.
"I'm not mad at you, I just think you need to stop overworking yourself." She sighed, "Come on, the town missed you." she says, patting my back.
I look up at her, falling into her perfect brown eyes slightly blurred by her big black round prescription glasses. I smile, "They did?" I ask.
She rolled her eyes jokingly while passing me towards my bags, "Of course they did, your Mx. Popular!" She grabs my bags.
"Alright," I say, "Let's go." I grab two bags from her and hop on my horse.
We rode back to our house.
The town looks better from when I left, the houses weren't in complete disarray, but there is still a hole or two in the roof of every other house we passed. "Meow..." I hear to my left.
I stop my horse and turn to see what made that noise, Tommy! I hop off my horse and scoop him up, cradling him in my arms. "Ayup buddy, did ya miss me?" I ask.
He purrs, curling up into a ball. I creep back onto my horse, careful not to drop him. "Bee! Come on!" Rose shouts from a few feet ahead of me.
I rode Lunar(my horse) all the way back to the house and put her in the large fenced area to the right of our house. I ran inside, putting Tommy on his brown leather chair next to the couch. I trot over to a chair and collapse on it, throwing my bag on the floor. Rose walks in behind me, "Tired?" she asks.
