"I think this is the one" I smiled at myself in the pink silky fabric. Jenna laid a comforting hand on my shoulder "you look so gorgeous". Prom was right around the corner and hundreds of people were asking me to go. I only had eyes for one in particular. Mars.
The sky fell a deep purple as I slipped my jewelry on. "Please be safe Mari" my mom said from the edge of my bed. She looked tense. My real name is Amaria, but people opted for my nickname instead. "I will mama. Don't worry." I kissed atop her head and walked out to meet Jenna, Mars, and Jenna's date, Clay.
Prom was normal I guess, what more can you expect from a bunch of sweaty teenagers crammed in a school gym. We had just dropped off Jenna and Clay, and I couldn't shake this feeling of weirdness radiating off of Mars.
He had this sly grin on this face, telling me about this place his dad had built in the woods of his backyard. I had a bad feeling, but decided against acting on it out of fear of the unknown.
He pulled past his house and down a gravel road, going deeper into the dark abis only broken by glowing headlights.
The tires tore with a stop, gravel popping under the airy rubber. "Alright this is the place." Mars said eagerly opening the door.
I hesitantly did the same, clutching my arms together to shield myself from the cold blowing wind.
He opened the door to a wooden shack with a glass roof over top. The warm air hit my skin but I didn't drop my arms from their resting place across my chest. I sat down on the edge of a bed placed directly in the center of the far wall.
"So I've been thinking recently," Mars started taking two beers out of the mini fridge across from me "Mari I really like you and," he paused to hand me a beer. I put my hand up polite refusal as he sat down next to me and set the rejected alcohol on the center table.
"What I'm trying say is, you're a beautiful woman," his hand rested on my thigh.
-SA WARNING-
My anxiety rose and I instinctively moved away at the touch. His face twisted in confusion, anger leaking from his breath.
"Mars I-" he cut me off, grabbing my face. I gasped and tried to get up, but was stuck in place by a firm grip on my waist.
"Don't leave me like this, Mari."
His words laced with anger and my body filled with fear. His breath was heavy against mine and I desperately looked for a weapon, a way out.
My eye caught a long, silver wood axe in the corner next to the fire place. It was chipped, but it would be more than enough to defend myself.
I fought against his drunken grip "Mars let me go!" I screamed out so maybe, by any chance, someone would hear my cries.
His hand slipped from my waist and I used this leverage to break free, only getting a few feet before slamming my back to the wall by force of his drunken arms.
"You need this Mari. Don't fight this. Don't fight me."
I slipped my hand under his arm and grapes the axe without his notice.
I kicked him to the floor and he nervously scrambled back in surprise of my strength.
I swung the axe and plunged the blunt object into his shoulder. Lifting it up once more to swing the final blow into his head.
