It was ironic really.

The last night you had spent with your lover, was one full of joy and laughter.

You had been trying and failing multiple times to create a dish, something with a fancy name that you'd probably pronounce incorrectly if you tried.

After hours of messing around, having fun, and completely destroying the kitchen, you both decided to settle for takeout, the solution to all food problems.

You had felt bad for not being able to replicate the dish, for it was supposed to be for a special friend of yours who had helped you through many tough times, someone you could call family.

Your partner had reassured you that you had tried your best, that you could go find a gift for that friend together the next morning......

...

The next morning..the next morning, what a sick joke, a terribly sick joke.

Next morning?

What next morning?

There was no next morning, not for your lover, not to go gift shopping, not to attempt to make whatever that damned meal, or dessert, or salad, or whatever!

Because they were gone, the only people you had left, the only chance of a normal life, all gone because of that damned Mori Oug-

"Don't you mean [y/n], it was your doing wasn't it?" He looked up at your unamused face and smiled "Is something wrong? You don't seem to be responding to my words."

"Oh, nothing it's just that," you glance around the room, "Why is there an undressed child behind you?"

"Hm? Oh, Elise here is just trying on some new dresses." He smiled, "Don't worry, she's harmless." Elise looked you up and down and went back to inspecting the dresses layed down for her.

"As I was saying," Mori continued, "that recent transport, you were the one who made it, correct?"

"Yes but-" Mori help up a gloved finger.

"I know that you want to give credit to the others with you at the time, but the main reason that it got transported safely was because of your quick thinking and calculated instructions."

Is that some sort of compliment?

"It seems that this is not the only time you have shown such leadership. You have built quite the reputation around here, it seems." He glances up at you, almost seductively.

"I've called you here to promote you to a manager of sorts," he picks up his glass of fine wine, taking a slow and careful sip, as if testing it for poison, "-to watch over and conduct mafia imports and exports and transports."

A promotion? Did he call me all the way to his office at 5 in the morning, for that? Why not wait later?

"But this is a position which requires work early in the morning."

Oh, that.

No, there was no way.

"Um, sorry sir but I,-"

"Don't do mornings?"

You look down to the floor, it sounds silly when you say it out loud. It's a childish fear, a silly one, but it's also one that's kept you alive, for 5 years to be exact, 5 years since the events that had taken place that nonexistent next morning.

-End of Chapter 1:

Well, that was something. I honestly don't know where this story is going, but I kinda like it.
