By the time sun kissed the morning breeze,Alexandre saw an old coin near their flower pit beside their door on which he hurriedly picked up.Due to his beliefs on such wishes about coins,he then threw it into an open manhole outside their gate across the street.He closed his eyes after he threw the coin,and wish for his dad to come back to their house.As he made his way back to their house,a speeding car honked loudly as it rumbled past his back,nearly hitting him.He fell hard on the gutter,then checked himself if he's okay .Alexandre tried to catch his breath as he shivered from that close call of death,and then sat in the gutter in front of their house for some minutes trying to away that scene from his mind.When he's about to stand up,he saw another car speeding its way up to the street.The yellow and white Honda halted the front of their driveway and he was surprised to see his father got off the car and smiled at him.Alexandre helped his father with his luggage.As soon as he got the last bag,the taxi cab rumbled away in full speed.
"Dad what happened to you?why is your arm is wrapped with bandages?"
"oh,it's nothing,son.I was hit by a car when I was trying to cross the street.Its a goof thing I wasn't killed.But Iost my handbag during the accident,I had no money now,and I got no places to stay."
Mrs.Bernardo's left arm was all wrapped with bandages and her neck and forehead were filled with scrapes and bruises.Alexandre hugged his father and told him that he's always welcome to live with him and her mom.
When alexandre's about to enter the house,he took one quick glance at the open manhole where he dropped the coin and made a wish.He felt a smile crossed his face and said to himself:My wish came true.
Eager to find out whether what happened the other day was just a coincidence or not,Alexandre tried to drop a coin and wish at the open manhole again.This time he wished for a long vacation and a girlfriend.
After waiting for some minutes,thinking if it's possible for a girl to come our of the manhole like in the movie 'ENCHANTED',Alexandre somehow got tired of standing near the hole,so he decided to get back to their house and get ready for school.
While he's going up the stairs to take a shower at his bathroom,his dad's dog scampered fast as it goes down the stairs.Alexandre tried to halt the pet but it's a huge tibestan mastiff dog,and he failed to stop both of them falling down their 18stepped stair.The dog fell on top of alexander who fell on the headfirst on the tiled flooring,Alexandre was rushed to the hospital after having an internal hemorrhage and serious spinal column damage.
Alexandre survived the fall after being revived by a critical brain surgery and orthopedic treatments.He spent months in the hospital for his theraphies and recovery treatments
"Can I walk around to practice my balance?"
Alexandre asked his personal nurse as they made their way out of his room.
"Sure you can.Just hold at the handtrails and don't walk to fast. I'll just get your medicine at the nurse station,sir."
The nurse made her way to the nurse station down the corridor,and Alexandre started to walk along to the pther direction.Alexandre turned around a corner into another hallway.He saw several patients waiting to be called at their doctor's clinic as he passed by,walking stiff and sow.While he was walking slowly,the clocked hanged in the wall caught his attention.It was already 3o'clock and he didn't realize it was afternoon.Staring hard at the clock,he didn't notice a bandage footon his way,so he tripped on it.A nurse and two other patients helped him get up.Alexandre quickly regained his balance and checked out who owns that foot.Turns out,a pretty girl in a green shirt with straight hair and gorgeous smile owns the foot that tripped him.
The girl in a green repeatedly said sorry to him as he blankly stared at her.Alexandre was so attracted to the girl,and he knew to himself.He can tell it by the way he stands in front of her without saying any word and just straightly starin at her for a minute or two.
"Are you okay?"the girl asked.
Alexandre blinked twice like he had returned to his normal state,and he sat beside the girl to rest fo a while.He told the girl that he's fine and learned that her name was Adelaide.They talked for some minutes and started to get to know each other through asking for their favorites and pet peeves.
"Uhhm,why are you here for again?"
"I'm here for my therapy.I hurt my left ankle and knee when I fell down the stairs while I was hurrying to catch my class, "Adelaide told Alexandre.
After exchanging numbers and spending time together during and after their own theraphies,Alexandre and Adelaide started dating,and eventually,they became a couple.Adelaide became Alexandre's girlfriend,another wish came true.
Every wish Alexandre makes come true.One wish after another.It was then proven that his first wish isn't coincidence,so he wanted to wish over the manhole again.When he crossed the street he saw that the manhole was covered with an iron lid,so he gathered some tools from their house to help him remove the lid.After some hard tugs and pulls,Alexandre finally opened the manhole.He dropped five coins and wished for loads of money and popularity and ultimate happiness.
The next day,a huge crowd gathered in and around Alexandre's house,then,an insurance sompany agent handed five hundred thousand pesos to Alexandre's dad,and a an in a yellow polo shirt held newspaper with Alexandre's photo on the front page with a screaming headline:SEWER METHANE EXPLOSION KILLS TEENAGER.
