Prom Night (1/3)

Depuis le début

Lisa for some reason stops in the middle of her sentence. From her karate-like pose earlier, she abruptly straightens her back again. Her arms dart straight down, and her fingers start to rub the silk fabric of her gown together, making the lady pull it from her and fixing it again to get rid of any creases. I simply give her a confused look, but Lisa wasn't looking at me anymore. Whatever it is, I think it's kinda rude for someone to just ignore the conversation. So with a slight annoyance, I sigh before turning my head.

Suddenly, my heart jumps out of my chest. My stomach was for sure making the weirdest sounds and sensations that I hardly ever feel except when I see her.

Jennie Kim.

-----

Jennie smiles at Lisa upon seeing her. She quickly makes her way to hug her.

"Lili! I didn't know you bought your dress here?"

"Oh, yeah! Same to you! We could've gone shopping together last week, good thing Jisoo here doesn't mind joining me" Lisa giggles. Jennie shifts her gaze to me and showed a gummy smile. That smile, it made my heart do gymnastics to the fullest degree. If the Olympics were happening today, I bet that my heart alone would win in the category.

"Your gown's fully made already?" Jennie asks. I nod.

"Yeah. I, I just received it yesterday afternoon." Fuck me for stuttering.

"I'm so excited to see everyone's gown!" Jennie says and looks at Lisa afterward, "Well, except for Lisa. I saw it just now"

The two of them giggle and Lisa says something about dumplings and cheeks, I don't know. But it seems like they're fairly close which I was surprised with. Lisa always told me that Jennie was just an acquaintance anyway, but I guess the two have found their common grounds which honestly isn't surprising. Lisa's a very social person and I'd be surprised if they didn't end up as friends after the end of senior year.

"Are you guys going now? I hate for you guys to see my gown before prom day" Jennie says. She pouts her lips after making Lisa laugh. Jennie glares at her with those cat-like eyes as Lisa stops in her antics and smiles cheekily at her.

"Lisa you promised!"

"Fine, fine. I'll change now."

"Good! You'll just have to wait til' Monday. It's only 2 days more so I bet you can manage"

Once Lisa changed back to her normal clothes, she said goodbye to the lady. Then, she knocked at the fitting room door where Jennie was and also said goodbye along with some other sentences I didn't bother to hear. After that, we go back and walk to the parking lot.

When we got there, I took out the keys from my pocket and inserted it in the ignition as I checked the side mirrors and the rearview to see if they're properly aligned. I then looked to my side to check if Lisa fastened her seatbelt. To my curiosity she was smiling; elbow on top of the little ledge of the window while her hand is in a fist that rests under her chin. I nudge at her,

"Earth to Lisa. Please wear your seatbelt" I say in a robotic tone.

"Sorry!" She says before wearing the seatbelt.

The ride back was mostly quiet just because I couldn't sing along to the music Lisa was playing. It was all these newer pop songs that I haven't listened to yet. They were good, don't get me wrong. I just really want something I could sing along to while driving.

"See you on Monday!" I say. We're in front of Lisa's house now.

"Jisoo, I have a question..." Her tone shifts. It wasn't a serious typa tone, but it was softer. Like she didn't want anyone to hear it but me.

"Ask away,"

"When you have a crush on someone and it's prom night on Monday, what do you do?"

"That's...That's your question?"

"Hey, I didn't say it was gonna be a deep question!"

I chuckle, "Well...Most probably, I, I, I would ask them to go and dance with me."

"Really?" Lisa's eyes suddenly went wide, "Wait, Jisoo...You like someone don't you?!"

"What? Me? No! I'm just saying what I probably would do in the scenario, you know? It doesn't take someone having a crush to suggest that. Besides, you haven't explicitly told me who you liked!"

"Well..."

"And I'm your best friend!"

"It's just. I'm shy about it, but you'll find out soon anyway so I wouldn't worry about it!"

Lisa smiles before grabbing her things. I unlock the door,

I look at her with a smirk on my face, "Wonder who that boy could be?"

"They're amazing, don't worry. You'll be on good terms with them in no time!"

"Hmph. They better be amazing! Only the best for my bestie"

"No, don't call me bestie."

I laugh, waving my free hand, "Okay, okay. I'll see you on Monday. Bye!"

"Bye!"

And with that, I drive back home.

Night came. I just can't seem to sleep. I keep thinking of the scene earlier; of Jennie and Lisa. But at the same time, I hate to think of it. I have to physically pinch myself in order to remind my brain that Jennie Kim is an amazing person. Smart, friendly, approachable, all the good things! Jennie and Lisa are friends...They're in dance class together so I shouldn't be jealous. Besides, it's not like I've actually tried to approach her and offer a simple conversation that didn't revolve around the homework to be submitted in our English lit class.

I sigh at the thoughts. I mean, that's why I'm gonna ask her to dance with me during prom. Because at least before the school year ends, for once in my 2-year crush for her...I'm gonna make a small move and hopefully enjoy a fraction of the time with her.

That's not too crazy right?
Nah.

I start to feel sleepy, yawning soon after. I look at my phone to check the time: 11:12 pm. Not quite late yet, but it's late enough to make me want to drift off to dreamland.

I turn off my phone and fluff up my pillow before I finally got into a comfortable position before closing my eyes and waiting to fall asleep.
