Chapter 13: New Developments on the Horizon!

"That jacket. It looks familiar," Sun said.

Jaune walks over to the White Fang. He also sports a bandana on his mouth and black sunglasses. Completing the ensemble is a voice modulator to mask his real voice.

"Evening, Gentle and Lady Faunuses," Jaune said.

"I hope I'm not late to the party,"

The White Fang point their weapons at him.

"Nope. You're right on time," A voice said.

Soon, a man steps out of the bullhead, revealing himself to be Roman Torchwick.

He smirked.

"I never thought I'd get to meet the great Dr. Alexander J. Mercer," Roman said.

Sun and Blake went wide-eyed upon hearing this. They were surprised to see Mercer here.

"It's an honor."

"Well, it's nice meeting you too," Jaune said.

The White Fang was surprised to see the one who helped their leader escape.

"What brings you here?" Roman asked.

"Just a little business," Jaune said.

Jaune takes out a scroll and hands it to Bane.

Soon, it starts to ring.

Bane answers the call and responds.

As the conversation follows, Bane is surprised, yet overjoyed. He is happy with the conversation.

Jaune walks over to Roman.

Truth be told, Roman was on guard. He knew how powerful, if not deadly Alex Mercer could be. However, he was curious given the achievements he has accomplished. Still, he had some tricks up his sleeve should the conversation turn violent.

"Now, Roman. I am here on the request of your sister," Jaune said.

Roman was surprised to hear this.

"My sister?" Roman asked.

"Yes. She's quite worried for you," Jaune began.

"So worried that she asked me to come to Vale to bring you and your daughter home to Mistral so you can all be a family again."

Roman was touched by this. Said daughter was happy as well. Still, Roman had a feeling it wasn't a charity event.

"And I bet you're doing this because she's willing to pay you millions," Roman said.

"On the contrary, the only reward will be her helping me with my endeavors," Jaune said.

"What kind of endeavors?" Roman asked.

"Sorry, spoilers."

Jaune sensed Roman's anger.

"If you hurt her, I swear..." Roman started.

"Easy, Mr. Torchwick. I have no intention of harming your sister," Jaune said.

"I watch over my associates."

"In fact. I'm more than willing to pay for her help."

"Really? How much?" Roman asked.

"Millions," Jaune said.

"Millions?" Roman asked, skeptical that Jaune would be willing to pay millions.

Jaune misunderstood Roman's tone of voice.

"What? Is that too little? Well, if she wants, I can get her a billion," Jaune replied.

Roman went wide-eyed.
