Alpha and Omega

I stood straight up when I heard the braking of the twigs. The snow began to fall ceaselessly. The wind had blown for days and now it is making it hard to stand.  My fire began to blow out. I bent down and grabbed my knife. A low growl rumbled across the dark forest. I searched the tree line to find a pair of green eyes glaring at me. Then, behind that one set, showed two more… then three more pairs of eyes. I looked around the clearing and eyes of different colors kept showing up. One pair of eyes, the gold, locked into mine and stared. I couldn’t escape that one’s stare. I looked, and it followed my movement. A large growl formed and the golden eyes backed up. A big black wolf, the green eyed one, stalked towards me. I backed up. The wolf brought his lips back up in an evil smile and snarled. “You don’t belong here, Human.” The wolf said. “You can speak?” I said hesitantly as I fell to the ground. “Yes. We can speak. We can do much more. The only problem is that, your embarking on my territory. Get back on your own land!” The wolf growled louder. I backed up more. “I-I’m sorry! I didn’t know this was wolf land! I don’t even know where my land is. See, I got lost… on a pack gathering? I’m lost.” I say with a whine. Wolves are territorial, they are social animals. So, if I act like an omega… “Stop thinking! You are just a low human! You know nothing of wolves!” The wolf barked and crept closer. He began digging his claws into the earth. “Forgive me, Luka, for this human does not know of our beings. She didn’t even know we could speak her tongue!” The golden eyed wolf stepped out and lowered next to the black wolf. Luka stood straight up and glared at the golden eyed wolf, which had a pure white coat. His fur was beautiful, and it looked… amazing. “Human, what is your mother-given name?” Luka growled. “A-Alyson Reegs.” I say. “Alyson Reegs, Human of the Gestira Life form.” “Stop it Mars! You have no right!” Luka jumped and attacked the white wolf. Luka threw himself over Mars and grabbed his throat in his mouth and bit down. I could see blood trickling through each hair on Mars’ neck. Stop! You’re killing him! I wanted to scream. Luka let go and growled and stalked towards me. Luka’s eyes were full of anger. “Luka, no!” Mars yelled. But Luka jumped at me and I threw my arm up to protect myself. Luka’s jaws clamped on my arm and he tugged. I screamed in pain and I sliced Luka’s eye with my knife. He backed up and shook his head. A single cut went through his eye, and blood ran down his face. He snarled in anger. He ran off, followed by the rest of the wolves, except Mars. Mars looked at me then crept at me. “Alyson, you challenged the Alpha wolf. He is not happy. Since his blood contains the alpha gene, and he bit you, you are…” “Mars get your ass away from that human now!” Luka yelled from the top of the hill. Mars looked me in the eyes. “I’m so sorry, Alyson. I wish this one could help.” He said then ran off towards the Alpha. My hands began to tremble. A pain ran through Luka’s bite to the rest of my body. I lay my head back in the snow in agony as this creature’s DNA ran through every inch of my body. I wasn’t worried about the bite. I was worried about the last thing Mars didn’t get to say. The snow kept falling, and my fire was dim. I stood up and glared at the paw prints that ran through the ground. Damn wolves… why is it ME? I kicked some snow onto the fire and started following the wolf’s trail.

I came across a cabin. Dark red door and old wooden walls. I knocked on the door and called out, it seemed like it was abandoned. I peeked my head in the window and looked around. There was a fire going in the fire place, and a cat sitting on the mantle.  There was coffee brewing on a table. So I knocked on the glass again and again. I looked back at the cat and it looked horrified. I looked around and saw a hand, on the floor. I couldn’t get a good view to see if the rest of the body was with it, so I kicked down the door to find Luka, standing over an old man’s body. Luka looked up at me and growled. “You again?! Why the fuck are you here?!” he growled. I looked at the dead man and looked around the room and saw a picture of the old man with his wife and three children. “He’s an innocent old man,” I pause. The cat hisses and Luka jumps and rips the cat’s head clean off. I went for the gun on the side of the door way. I grabbed it and looked to see if it was loaded. Dear baby Jesus thanks you so much for bestowing this life savior upon me! I aimed it right at Luka’s head. He glared me down. Mars came from behind and took the gun out of my hand and threw it out of the way, and he stood in front of me and snarled at Luka. “Back down Omega!” Luka snarled. “No! I will not let you toss around Alyson like she is nothing. This human, is brave enough to challenge YOU! You are afraid of her, and you know it! This girl has the power to kill you, and you just want to kill HER?! You’re a wolf! She is a HUMAN.” Mars growled. “At least allow her to take to the bite. What if she turns? What if she becomes one of us? What will you do?” Mars adds. Luka looked down for a moment. Take to the turn? What does that mean? “Means, when a human is bitten by an Alpha, he or she will die, take to the bite and turn into a wolf, or nothing will happen. You usually find out within the next day or two.” Mars turns to me and looks me up and down. “This also means, you’ll need a pack if you turn.” He turns and looks at Luka. “Remember the Rules?” Mars barks. Luka looks at me then at Mars. “Hiyume Teira De Diesto.” Luka growls. What was that? It certainly was not Canadian. “It’s WolfCritea. The original wolf language. We took to human tongue not long ago.” Mars says. Luka stepped forth and turned into a human. He looked my age. His hair was black and short and his eyes were green, and he had deep eye brows. I could see the contours of his muscles through his blue shirt. His jeans were ripped at the knee and he wore black skate boarding shoes. The scar from my knife was still there. He looked at me again. “Alyson, you are welcomed to become part of my pack, as the omega, along with Mars. Mars will train you, he will tell you everything. You are not welcomed in the den, yet. You are welcomed to stay here, as your home. We will contact your old pack and say you have died. Your life will restart. If you do not have any reaction to the bite then you will become the human of this pack. One who is to watch the pups when we go out for a hunt, one who heals, and one who is omega.”  Luka says. Mars walked to me and stood in front of me, but glared at Luka. The two looked at each other as if having a secret conversation. Luka gazed at me then looked out the window. “Let’s go meet the pack.”  Luka says. They are not wolves. First of all, wolves don’t talk. Second, they don’t turn into humans!! “We can do more than that.” Luka laughed as he turned wolf. I watched him walk out of the cabin. Mars stood next to me and nudged my arm. He started following Luka, and I followed him. He slowed down to talk to me. “Not all of us can shift forms.” He says in a low voice. I look at him. “How?” I ask. “A wolf must interact with a human the opposite sex, to turn into a shifter. Unless the wolf was a human and was turned.” Mars says. I look at him at the corner of my eye. “How did Luka get the power to change?” I ask. “Luka’s mate was a human. She had given Luka the best time of his life, until she tried to kill him. The cats, they talked her into thinking the wolves will take over the world. She really had no idea that she was falling into a trap. The cats killed her and they won human trust.” Mars says. Is that why Luka killed that kitty cat in the cabin? Wow, this is alien to me. I love this though. It’s so cool. The only problem is that I have to feign death towards my friends. I wonder if Mars can turn into a human. “No I can’t. I’ve always wondered what it’s like to be a human. But that will have to wait.” He trots ahead to Luka. He whispers into Luka’s ear and comes back. “It’s a bit of a walk. Let me know if you get tired.” Mars says. I nod but kept walking.
