Chapter 2 - Where the fight is coming from

Ephesians 6:12

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The Bible tells us that our lives here on this earth go way beyond physical existence. It tells us that the battles we face are not from a natural source. The battles that try to overtake us come from the spiritual realm. Everything that happens here on earth has a spiritual connection to it. We tend to look at all the adversities in our life and believe that we are alone in our battles. This isn't true. We have spiritual forces working behind the scenes in our lives every day. We can't see it with our eyes. We can't hear the battle cries with our ears, but we can be sure there is a battle raging on for our souls.

The forces of darkness are working against us. The enemy is working tirelessly to capture our souls. While we know this is true, what we may not understand is how the forces of darkness operate. In other words, what is the enemy's battle plan? Do we know the tactics Satan uses against us? Would we recognize an attack from the enemy when it's taking place? Most of us could be in the middle of the battle of Armageddon and not even realize it is happening.

We know that Satan has waged war against God since the beginning of time. And since then, he has desired to overtake the world.

It all started in chapter three of the book of Genesis. We can see here that some of Satan's greatest strategies include using deception, lies, and temptation to try to capture our souls. These are some of the most common weapons he uses in this war that he has waged against us.

I believe that knowing the real source of our troubles can allow us to resolve them more effectively. Let's think about a hypothetical scenario where the faucet in your kitchen is leaking. You want to fix it, but where do you begin? You wouldn't go into the bathroom and start taking apart the pipes behind the toilet, would you? Of course not. Any logical person would begin by taking their toolkit to the pipes underneath the kitchen sink.

What if you fell and injured your knee? Let's say that you walk, or should I say, limp, into your doctor's office. You tell him your knee hurts. Would you expect the doctor to take an x-ray of your elbow? Of course not. If he did, you would probably wobble out of his office as fast as you could. You wouldn't get any results if your doctor wasn't looking in the right place.

Knowing the source of the problem is the best way to begin your fight against it. And the origin of life's battles is in the heavenly realms, against the spiritual forces of evil. The spiritual realm is where we must focus our efforts. This is where the conflict begins, and this is where we must fight if we hope to win.
