Beware Beautiful Soldiers

Soldiering is a serious and sinful business, a place of forlorn souls going through the motions. Detached beings, counting down their days of service, praying they make it out alive. 

Amidst the greenish banality of it all you will inevitably come across the beautiful soldier.

This is the soldier that seems like the army is his playground, who is full of smiles and ever in high spirits.

This is the soldier who meticulously styles his hair while all else around him spit and oil their guns.

This is the soldier who stands in the midst of his platoon and twirls his pistol like a movie star.

This is the soldier that strikes a pose while lighting a cigarette, even when no-one else is around to see.

 This is the soldier that prefers to stare at his phone screen rather than across enemy lines.

This is the soldier that always makes jokes during roll call or training drills, the one that never listens.

This is the soldier that seems aloof to the worries of war, carefree and invincible. 

This is the soldier, that gets you killed.
