Chapter 30

       "I wish I could see it every day. I'm jealous of you guys, Unnie and Oppa." Jieun continued. Hyori laughed at her statement. "If you live here, you'll soon become bored of it." 

      "How is your album going, Jieun nah?" Sangsoon asked. Jieun shifted her gaze from the sky and looked towards him. "It was such a hit, Oppa. I wasn't expecting it." She said, a hint of pride in her voice. Jihyuk glanced at her and smiled. Hyori dipped her head in their direction. "Really? Well, we didn't get a chance to listen to it, with the moving and all."

      Jieun pouted playfully but nodded her head in understanding. Sangsoon then picked up his guitar from beside him and handed it to Jieun. "You should sing us a song from the album, Jieun nah." Hyori's eyes lit up as she perked up from her seat. "Yeah, Jieun nah. Encore!' She said, throwing her hands up in the air. Jieun couldn't help but laugh at Hyori. She cast a glance at Jihyuk who gave her a supporting smile. 

     She took a deep breath, began playing the tune of "Hi Spring Bye'' on the guitar, and began singing. Jihyuk was once again mesmerized by her raw voice. Hyori and Sangsoon sat quietly and listened to her sing, but everyone could tell that they were proud of Jieun. As the song ended, there was applause around the campfire. "That was so good, Jieun nah!" Hyori complimented the young lady. Jieun had her hand scratched behind her neck, trying to hide her shyness. She sensed Jihyuk's eyes on hers and couldn't help but be even shyer.

      "What about you, Jihyuk ah? Do you sing?" Jihyuk turned his attention towards Hyori. He shook his head, "I-I'm not much of a singer. But I used to take music classes when I was younger." Jieun's eyes perked up at his statement. "Really?" She asked. He nodded. "Come on then, sing us something." Hyori coached the male. Jihyuk looked unsure. He glanced at Jieun who was now giving him a supportive smile and handed him the guitar. 

      His fingers were placed on the strings gently as he tried to recall any songs that he could play. A song then popped in his head which was a song that he learned not too long ago but it was before he had met Jieun. He had never played for anyone before. He felt nervous as he began to strum the song's tune and started to sing.

       As he finished the song, all was silence. Then came abrupt applause and cheer from Sangsoon and Hyori, who continuously complimented him, saying that his voice was beautiful. Jieun was silent as she gazed at him, mesmerized by his voice and heart full of emotions at the meaning of the song. He too was quiet as he realized that he had summed up all of his feelings for her in the song.

      As their eyes found each other, Jieun realized that he had sung it from his heart to her, and her eyes brimmed with tears of happiness.

     Jihyuk lay on the couch of the living room that night, his mind was restless. He didn't know why he wasn't feeling tired even though they had done a lot of things today. He glanced at Jieun's bedroom door from time to time and wondered if she too was feeling restless as he was.

      His question soon got answered as the guest room door opened, revealing Jieun whose eyes immediately landed on him. He got up from his lying position and gave her a smile when she sat down next to him. Jieun laid her head on his shoulder without a word.

      "Not feeling sleepy?" He asked softly after a while. She shook her head, not taking her head off his shoulder. "I do, but. I just feel...restless without you by my side." Jihyuk heaved a smile as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "You should go back to bed. I'll stay with you until you fall asleep." He promised. 

     Jieun nodded tiredly and removed her head from his shoulder. He began to lift her up and carried her back to the guest room, where he laid her gently down on the bed. She shifted back so that there was space for him as he climbed in next to her. Jieun immediately scooted over and looped an arm around his torso as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders, holding her close. "The song you sang at the campfire. It was beautiful. Your voice is beautiful." She said sleepily. Jihyuk looked down at her in his arms, the dazzling beauty in his eyes; and couldn't help but to give her a light kiss on the nose, causing her to reopen her eyes and look up at him. "I meant every word in that song." He told her sincerely. Jieun smiled at him. "I know," she said softly. 

     Another moment of silence passed. He was beginning to think that she had fallen asleep. When he was about to remove his arm from her shoulder, he heard her soft voice piercing through the quiet night.

      Ibam geunare banditbureul (tonight, I'll send the glow of a butterfly)

     Danshine chang gakkai bonaelgeyo (to somewhere near your window)

     Eum saranghandaneun mareiyo (it's to show that I love you)

     She continued to sing until her voice was lost in the air, indicating that she had fallen asleep. Jihyuk had also fallen asleep beside her somewhere in the middle of the song where he had grown to become familiar.

      Foreheads touching, breaths fanning the other's face.

     It was pure bliss. It was everything they ever wanted, and perhaps, needed.

     And at that moment, even under unconsciousness, they knew that everything was okay, as long as they had each other.
