it's cause when something is poured in water, it distributes its own weight, meaning it wouldn't sit at the surface of the water or sink to the bottom. not to mention water has the same density as water. and let's say for example you drop a rock in water, it moves the water to make room for itself. water however can move water to make room for itself, it just mixes
