Y/N wished that she wasn't in this situation.

Her oldest brother was no where to be found and her  other brother was on a mission to find him... even if it meant leaving her alone.

Joon-ho was very set on finding their older brother who had disappeared seemingly from the face of the earth. She was only 15 when he disappeared and now Y/N is 18 and taking care of herself while Joon-Ho goes on a wild goose chase to find In-ho.

That's how she ended up walking alone to the train station she silently put her hood over her head and the ends of the sleeves covered her cold hands after being rejected from another job. Once inside she sat on the bench and pulled out her phone just to find it dead.

"Just my luck." She muttered out but was interrupted by a man walking up to her.

"Hello, miss, Can I talk to you?" She looked up to see a man in a suit standing by her as she tucked her phone back into her pocket.

"I shouldn't talk to strangers" Y/N spoke quickly trying to get rid of him, she wasn't the best with social interaction.

The man sighs with a slight smile on his face and looks back to her.

"Oh I completely understand Miss. But listen, I wanna let you in on a great opportunity to... Would you like to play a game with me?" The man asked looks down at her expectantly.

"Who are you?" She asked warily.

"I'm sure you've played ddakji before, right?" He spoke ignoring her question. "Play a few round of ddakji with me, And each time you win, I'll pay you a 100,000 won." Her eyes widened at the amount of money, she could finally care for herself.

"Wait, so if I hit your ddakji, and it flips over..." Y/N questioned staring up at the nicely dressed man critically. Who would just offer that kind of money when it could be used for themselves. "I get a 100,000 won?"

After a long time playing ddakji and a lot of slaps later on Y/N's part, even though he didn't slap too hard surprisingly.

She finally won.

"I won!" She squealed like a little kid after the game had turned almost fun and making her feel like she didn't have to worry about rent or her next meal.

"Your 100,000 won." He spoke smile at the girl who had a huge smile on her face and a small look of surprise looking like she seemingly forgot that she was playing for money. He was hesitant to continue with his offer because she seemed to kind to live in the games but, he had no choice.

"You know, miss. There are other games like this where you can make even more." She was hesitant, even though it was fun to play ddakji while waiting for her train, could she really rely on games for money?

He saw Y/N's hesitance and continued to persuade her. "Come on, it must sound tempting."

Y/N was very conflicted. For one she could have a chance to play games and earn money which sounded like a win win but, there had to be a catch. Who would be simply giving money to those who win games.

"May I think about it?"

"Sure, but only until tonight. Here's the number to call if you decide you want to play."

He handed her a small tan card with a circle, a triangle, and a square on the front and she flipped it over to see a number on the back. Looking back up to ask a question she found he was no longer standing there.

The train pulled up as she finished looking over the card and she silently got onto it, sitting on one of the uncomfortable seats. After 10 mins it was finally her stop and she got off the train and walked back to her small apartment that she had to move into after her brother stopped paying their rent for the last one with the money he got from being a detective.

She got comfortable and sat on the couch, staring out of the window looking out onto the city. The card was seemingly burning in her hand. Y/N looked at the number on the back and reached over to the home phone and called it.

What did she have to lose?

The story will definitely get more interesting once the games begin, I wasn't exactly sure how to start it off. I hope you liked it and I can't wait to continue.

A/N As Of 9/8/23

I have gotten a lot of comments about the "I don't believe in Jesus" part and I wanted to apologize. When I wrote this part I was going more so off of the show script and in the English translation that's what Gi-Hun says to deter the guy from talking to him. I didn't even think about changing the line for a reader pov and I'm sorry about that. This is a safe space for everyone of every sexuality, gender, and religion. If your reading this and have no clue what I'm talking about, then I have already changed it

thank you guys for giving my story a chance <3
