*Damien’s POV”
Sweat poured down my back as I pushed my body up again. “Two hundred”, I muttered and pushed myself off of the mat I had been doing my push ups on.
“Whoa man, are you going for a record or something?” that was Spencer, my best friend who was currently lifting dumb bells by the side of the workout room
I mopped my face and neck with a towel and reached for my water bottle which was perched on one of the benches. “Nah, man… Just trying to stay in shape for the big game”
I sat down on the bench and took a huge drink from the bottle.
“Uh-hun”, Michael said sitting up from the bench press “Looks like lady troubles to me”
“Shut up man, no girl has stuck around you long enough for you to have a clue about lady troubles”, I snapped at him.
The poor dude looked shocked. “Well sorry man, touchy touchy”, he murmured
I felt bad Michael had to apologise to me for my own crappy mood. As the star player on the team I commanded respect amongst my peers but I never once misused that. Today however, Aimee had gotten my head so screwed up, I wasn’t thinking straight. I mean, I never knew what she was thinking and it didn’t help that she kept sending me mixed signals. Did she like me or not? I never had to second guess myself before, dating Laura had been a walk in the park, mostly about keeping up appearances. I guess I never had to fight for my relationship before and I didn’t really know how to.
Aimee… Darn, I was already so into her. Her beautiful smile, her awesome laugh, her cute little face and her hair was the best thing I had ever smelled. I know we had rushed things a little but I didn’t regret it and I knew it would suck majorly if I lost her… ever.
“Earth to Damien”, I was suddenly jolted back into reality by Spencer snapping his fingers in my face “Don’t tell me it’s Laura that’s got you so zoned out”
I shook my head. Spencer was my best friend and I hadn’t yet told him. I think I was a little worried about his reaction. Maybe Aimee had a point.
“Err, actually it’s Aimee Nells”, I shrugged nonchalantly and screwed the cap of the water bottle back on
“Whoa, dude. That’s like a complete 180 from Laura” Michael spoke up
“Good for you, man. Aimee’s alright plus anyone has got to be better than Laura. I swear that girl is a complete bitch”, Spencer said seriously
“Yeah but you’d like to do her wouldn’t you”, I laughed
“My man parts will probably cringe at the sight of such evilness. Now Aimee on the other hand…” Spencer gave me a not so subtle wink, trying to get a rise out of me
“Dude, I can’t believe you’re okay with this”, Michael said looking at Spencer “C’mon Damien, Aimee Nells is a nerd. What are you doing with her anyways?”
My fist clenched angrily at my side. “Watch yourself, Mike”
“No disrespect, man but that girl isn’t up to our level and you shouldn’t be ruining your rep dating her. Just saying, there are lots of hotter fish in the sea”, Michael continued
“Just shut up Mike”, Spencer yelled but it was too late. I sprung up and fisted my hands up in Michael’s sweatshirt, slamming him against the wall of the workout room.
“I swear Mike if you keep talking smack about Aimee, I’m gonna break your jaw and I’m not even kidding”, I all but spat at him “She’s my girl now whether you like it or not and she deserves some respect, got it?’
“Alright, alright dude”, he sputtered, his voice breaking a little
I released him and took a few steps back. Spencer was up, trying to calm me down.
“Sheesh, I’m sorry, man” Michael apologised some more, straightening out his shirt
“Whatever”, I muttered and went to grab my gym bag from the other side of the room “I’m done for today”
“Later, man”, Spencer nodded at me.
I nodded back which was sign for we’ll catch up later.
I paced down the school hallway and out into the parking lot. Once there, I unlocked my Range Rover, shoved my bag in the passenger seat and got in.
I pulled out of school grounds and into the road, noting that it was getting dark out. My thoughts once again drifted to Aimee. I mean, she was kind of right about the sort of friends I had… Michael had just proved so. I was annoyed because the whole argument was just stupid to begin with. First off, I was pissed at that dude Kent who was so obviously into her and that she was still trying to defend him. Then things got a bit out of hand and to crown it off, Laura turned up. The nagging feeling at the back of my mind told me not to let it be. I got to an intersection in the road and took a turn left, instead of right to my house in Creek.
I just had to see her; the anticipation was driving me crazy.
Ten minutes later, I was parked on the street across from her house. I fidgeted in my seat and tapped the steering wheel, looking up at the window I guessed was her bedroom window. The lights were on inside so I knew she was home but now I was here, I suddenly felt… nervous. What if she didn’t appreciate me turning up at her house uninvited?
Deciding to take a chance, I pulled out my I phone and dialled her number. Two rings. I didn’t realize I was holding my breath till she picked up.
“Hello Damien”, she said in a very cool tone.
Great. She was still pissed at me.
“Hey… Uh… Aimes”, something alien stirred in me at the sound of her voice and I had suddenly lost my train of thought “I’m parked outside your house right now”.
Silence.
Shit. I didn’t know what I expected showing up at her house unannounced like this when things were still tense.
I could see a shadow against the window I was looking up at.
Finally, she spoke. “I’ll be right down”
I breathed a sigh of relief and got out of the car, crossing over to her house. I walked up to the front door and contemplated ringing the bell. Soon enough the door opened and Aimee walked out, immediately shutting the door behind her.
She looked so breathtakingly adorable in her tank top, short shorts and her hair piled up in a messy bun at the top of her head. Her beautiful blue eyes looked a little sad though. It hurt to know that her sad eyes were probably all my fault.
“Damien…” she breathed
“I’m so sorry, baby”, I whispered urgently and then my lips were on hers with a need I couldn’t contain. She melted into me almost immediately, kissing me back with as much need and urgency as I was kissing her. Her fingers came up to wrap in my longish hair. My arms went around her back and I pulled her even closer to me if that was possible, pressing her body into the door post. She moaned into my mouth as I deepened the kiss. She tasted divine and I couldn’t get enough of her, enough of her taste, enough of her scent.
I pulled away once I felt the wetness against her face.
“Aimes, what’s wrong?” I whispered wiping away her salty tears with my thumb.
“I’m sorry… I thought… I just thought…. We were over”, she sputtered out, her cheeks reddening as she furiously swiped away the wetness from her eyes.
“Never, Aimes… Not if I can help it”, I murmured and pulled her into my arms while she quivered softly.
My nose nuzzled her awesome hair and I wanted to kiss her again. Just as I leaned down, the front down flung wide open and I came face to face with a not-so-pleased Mr Nells.
