11 years old:
"But I dont wanna go!" I cried.
"You have to, Rose. This will be good for you. It's where you belong." My father assured.
"NO!" I screamed, "I want to stay with Cristina! She's my best friend, I am not leaving her."
My best friend was a muggle. She knew nothing about magic, since it was illegal for us to expose ourselves to them. We had been inseparable for years, and the thought of leaving her without an explanation made my heart break. I had always had trouble making friends, since I was awkward around people, and they didn't always like me. She was the only one who loved me for who I was and took the time to get to know me.
My father sighed. We had been having this fight for days, ever since the letter from Hogwarts arrived. A wizard living within the muggle community, he believed it was important for me to embrace my background.
Growing up, I knew that I had wizard's blood. My parents were always open and honest with me about their past in the wizarding community. They still practiced magic around the house, so naturally, I was used to seeing magic. Sometimes, they spoke about their regret of leaving the magic world, but overall, they were happier than ever living with muggles.
My mother was the true motivation for the move, she had always been fascinated with muggle culture. After graduating from Hogwarts, she and my father decided to spend a short period in the muggle world to see what it was like, before they would return and settle down. Instead, they fell in love with our quaint town and abandoned their magical past, except for small tasks. She died a few years ago, and ever since, dad has been pressuring me into going to Hogwarts.
"Your mother would want this" he finally says.
"No she wouldn't," I yell, "You left magic behind because of her! She loved muggle life, and she would have wanted me to stay here."
"You're right. She did love muggle life, but she also knew how important it was for you to see both sides before you can decide what you want. I'm the parent here. This is not a discussion, this is me telling you. You're going to Hogwarts next week, end of story."
Tears streaming down my face, I ran to my room and slammed the door. For the next week, I laid in bed crying, knowing that everything to come would be miserable.
