I love you
A substitute for 'you'll do'.
Cold fingers strike a match
To create a spark,
Another flame
To warm a cold soul
Empty promises fill an empty void
Yet another 'twin flame'
Turns into a house fire
Only to be rebuilt months later
By a new love interest
Promises of 'forever'
Repeated each time,
Collecting love letters
By different authors
Only to be forgotten once sweet turns sour
And I no longer need their warmth
For the flame has dwindled
To a comfortable, slow burn
Extinguished by my cold heart
