chapter twelve: the christmas party

"Maybe that'll be the end of the torture," I sighed, taking a sip of my drink. "You know, aside from dealing with you all night."

"I can get Miles here any second you want."

"Do it. That way I can talk to him about being a beater. I think I have some real potential."

"I think you caused permanent damage."

"Shut up," I laughed, pushing his shoulder. As I laughed, I glanced around the room, locking eyes with George. For a moment, we looked at each other, letting both of our gazes rake the other's body. The moment ended as Alicia laughed, leaning into George's side. I stood up straighter as anger coursed through my body. Especially when he leaned towards her and laughed too. The game is on. "Have you seen Melinda?"

"Yeah, she's over there with Blaise." I looked to where he'd nodded before taking his hand.

"Well, let's get to work."

It became a giant game. Honestly, it was exhausting, but I knew I was getting to him. Especially when I stopped at the bar to get a drink, and George walked up, sitting beside me.

"I see you and Warrington are getting cozy," he smirked, taking a drink off the tray.

"He's fun," I nodded, giving him a quick glance. "You and Alicia seem to be having fun too."

"We are." He leaned closer. "You can toss in the towel, you know."

"Never."

"Never?" he asked with a little laugh. "Oh, darling, I'm not blind. I can see you're jealous, and truly, that is very flattering."

"Jealous?" I scoffed. I turned, purposely spilling part of my drink on him. Luckily, he was wearing black pants so there was no stain. "Oh, Merlin's sake." I grabbed a few napkins and helped clean up the mess, letting my hands graze him ever so slightly. He shifted in his seat, and I looked up at him as innocently as possible. "My bad."

He grabbed my wrist before I could continue. "Right," he muttered as I got up. "Because a not jealous person would pull a stunt like that." I turned away to throw the napkins out.

"I'm not jealous." My back was to him as I threw them into the trash. His hand slyly slipped across my stomach and pulled me back into him. I could feel him through his pants.

"You'll give in shortly," he whispered, sending chills down my spine. He hummed. "A jealous liar. I never pegged you for the type, Larissa Prince."

"That's because I'm not."

"Really?"

"Really."

"Prove it."

"Okay, I will," I huffed, setting down my empty glass and walking up to Cassius as he talked to Adrian. "Give us a minute, Pucey." I pulled him away. "What's Melinda saying?"

"Not much, but she did ask about you."

"You want to make her really jealous?" I asked.

"Isn't that what we've been doing?"

"Kiss me."

He raised his eyebrows. "Larissa, what the hell-"

"If you're a sucky kisser, I'll lie, but if you want to make her jealous, then kiss me."

"I mean, if you wanted me that bad, you could've just said so," he laughed before slipping a hand behind my neck and pulling me into a kiss. He was a surprisingly good kisser though he wasn't who was on my mind. Even when I rested my hands on the side of his face and he tilted me back slightly, I knew exactly who was watching. I pulled away.

"You know, you weren't half bad at that."

"You weren't so bad yourself," he smiled. I was about to say something else when there was a loud sound behind us.

"Let me go, you filthy squib."

"Is that..."

"Draco," he nodded.

"I'm going to go see what's going on." I saw Melinda looking at us. "Plus, I think someone saw us." He looked over.

"Nice work, Slytherin princess."

"Thin ice, Warrington. Very thin."

He laughed before we parted ways. I rushed over to see what was happening with Draco. By the time I got there, Snape had walked up.

"I'll escort him out."

Draco yanked his arm free of Filch's hold. "Certainly, Professor." They left.

"Okay, everyone. Back to the party," Slughorn encouraged. Everyone returned to their normal activities as I rushed out the same door Draco and Snape had gone out.
