As a kid, I never felt different.
While all the White girls and boys were out frolicking in the sun, I went with.
Frolicking all the same, growing darker by the day.

But teenagers don't think like little kids.
Teenagers notice what they have and what others do not.
So, while all the White girls and boys noticed that they pale skin,
They also noticed that I did not.
I was different.
And most teenagers hate being different.
So they thought I should, too.

I had never felt different until 13.
But ever since then, that's all I've felt.
