A Path To Our Own Forgiveness

"Why don't we go see her now?" He asked.

"Funny" I laughed a little.

"No," Aaron pulled me a little, "Let's go say hi to your mom".

"Really?".

He nodded.

"Okay".

The two of us crossed the street and went into the cemetery. There were a lot of graves, and I got the creeps. This was real fucking creepy.

"I wonder that the oldest stone here is" Aaron spoke.

I took a deep breath, "Probably the early 1900's. I couldn't imagine any of them being older than that".

"You never know. I'll keep my eye out".

We walked around. Some of them were fresh, flowers and gifts around them. Some of them clearly hadn't been visited in years. I felt bad. This definitely wasn't the ideal destination for a date.

"Hey, that's your mom right?" Aaron asked.

I looked towards where he was looking. The big nice granite stone had big bold letters on it, "BENNETT".

"You'd think it's wouldn't be that extravagant. She never would've had the money for that" I started walking over.

I bent down as Aaron stood over me. Moms name was engraved on the very right side of it, so that tempted me to look at the other side.

Daniel Bennett.

I froze, "Dad?".

"Jess told me today they were buried together".

"Dad?" I felt a tear roll down my face.

"Ty babe?" Aaron knelt down with me.

"That's my dad" I cried.

"I'm sorry" Aaron hugged me.

I let myself cry for a moment, "How did she know?".

"Overheard your mom talking about it. I won't get into the details".

I looked up at him, "Thank you".

Aaron smiled, "You are very welcome. Now why don't we get to the lights before it gets too busy?".

I looked back at the grave, "I'll be back dad. I'll bring Ben next time."

Aaron grabbed my hand as he took me to the park. Immediately, I could see the lights. I loved them. There were people around, and I could see Aaron immediately start to panic a little. I tried not to mention it. He looked around at everyone, and he progressively got worse.

"What's going on? Do we need to leave?" I asked.

"No, I just don't... like being around... people".

I sighed, "Aaron Jesus Christ".

"I promise".

"Okay fine then" I kept looking around.
