Broken Bottles and Empty Promises
Tears cascading down her face
Like the entering of the tide.
Gasping, wondering what she did wrong
Her surroundings shatter like glass.
She clasped her hands in prayer,
Murmuring dead hopes and dreams
Once filled with endless possibilities.
Grasping the empty bottle
Drinking away her memories,
Sliding down the wall, her bloodshot eyes wild
Pictures of the past, take her back in time.
Closing her eyes, half-smile donning the tear-stained face,
Memories of summer days filled with smiles and laughter
Photographs flickering rapidly through her mind
Coming to a stop at a forgotten photograph.
Taken at a time similar to today,
Unsightly state, fragile state of mind
She saw the downturn of her life.
Smelling the whiskey-filled breath, staring into unseeing eyes
She saw herself.
Blinking, she reentered reality
Now aware of mistaken arguments and unruly decisions
She opened her eyes, seeing a new light;
A cold, broken heart warmed and awakened;
Dirt and grime washed away,
Leaving behind purity and beauty,
Newfound life floods her eyes.
Things may fall apart and things may fall together,
But in the end,
She learned to forgive and forget,
Remember and never regret
Rebuilding her love and trust,
She discovered her purpose, saw the truth,
Tossing away the bottle,
She finally found herself.
