Her garden haze was restless smoke
And sweet with poison lake
She turned fire into effigy
And woke for spirit's sake.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Black hills she climbed and lifeless trees
Had torn away her soul
The dead king smiled sadly at the prize
His prison would swallow whole.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
She broke through rosethorn walls and found
What rescued her heart's remains
A hollow ship from poplar grove
Forged through thunderous hurricanes.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
She lit a torch to light her way
Through waves and snow and earth
Determined was her endless sky
A journey towards rebirth.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
A windswept sea lay years in wait
For a mistress of hardened life
She strung her bow and stripped her sail
Setting off with strength and strife.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The first stars never saw her sink
Past hidden from goddess view
Mortals would celebrate her return
If she sliced through deadly blue.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Persephone, it murmured slow
Then in anger, turned astray
She killed its thoughts and steered alive
Seas allowed her a peaceless day.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
She woke in morning dry with blood
Of fruitful summer tide
It wandered off for others gone
Her ship was by their side.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Centuries spent until the coast
They flew off to the sand
A sigh the green-gray silence broke
She'd reached the living land.
