Shocked by the unexpected explosion, we all screamed, ducking under our tables or behind chairs. I thought my ears had deceived me when I heard Terasaka cheering. Not caring about his reaction, I ran to the front through the thick dust floating around, to check on my best friend. Covering my face from the dust, I screamed.
"Nagisa!"
As I reached the front, it was still to dusty to make out what happened to the both of them, but I could still hear Isogai and Maehara shouting at him. Realizing that Terasaka and his gang were behind me all of a sudden, I glared at them, completely pissed at what they have done.
"Hey!" Kayano called as she stood. "What have you given to Nagisa?!" She demanded, mad at their actions as well.
Terasaka didn't seem unfazed. "I only gave him a toy grenade," he replied. "Just that I added some gunpowder so that the three hundred BB bullets inside will be shot at crazy-high speed! He'd never suspect a suicide bomb and no way he could have survived that!" He added with an arrogant tone in it.
I kept my head down. "Do you think the ten billion yen would be worth it?" I asked, gaining their attention. "Do you think it would be worth it if someone else's life would be in danger? You three never even thought about Nagisa's safety, even if he may have agreed to your stupid plan!" I screamed.
I felt like crying. Nagisa was my only true friend. He knew about my past, but unlike the others who left me, he still stood by my side and supported me in my darkest of days. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't met him.
"Huh? Of course the ten billion yen would cover up for the medical fees, wouldn't it? Why are you even making such a big deal about it?" He retorted.
A dry laugh escaped my mouth. "Medical fees? What if Nagisa didn't make it? You knew what the octopus said this morning; we could end up shooting our eyes out. The ten billion yen wouldn't be enough."
The class was quiet. I shook my head to clear out the negative thoughts. "I shouldn't be thinking about tha--" I stopped myself when I turned to look at where Nagisa was. To my surprise, he seemed unhurt, and something pale yellow which was translucent was covering his body. I heard shuffling behind me, and I heard several gasps as well.
"What the hell is this?" I mumbled, poking the soft membrane. It felt like poking a cling wrap.
Behind me, Terasaka was confused as well. "Huh? Is it just me or did it actually come from that octopus's corpse over there?" He asked, pointing to a familiar octopus-like figure lying down beside Nagisa, all charred.
Most of us jumped at our spots when we heard a very familiar voice. "As it happens, I shed my skin once a month, so I protected Nagisa-kun with my old skin," the octopus explained as Nagisa freed himself from the pale yellow membrane. Immediately, I hugged him tightly, glad that he was safe. I wouldn't know what to do if he was gone.
We looked up to the ceiling, only to find our target clinging onto the wooden ceiling, shadows covering his face, only showing the mouth and his now gleaming eyes. His voice even had a dark tone to it.
