"Enjoy your coffee you addict." You said. He laughed, grabbed the coffee, and started heading out. Before he did though, he made sure to say thank you and wave. As he walked down the street taking slow sips of coffee he noticed his name on the sleeve. Upon closer inspection, he saw that it was misspelled. Richy. He had to remember to let you know next time.

Only one day had passed and Richie, like always, was anxious to go to the cafe. Except for this time, it wasn't just because of the coffee. He found himself wanting to see you as well. He pushed open the door and was happy to be greeted with your smiling face on the other side of the register.
"Same order as yesterday?" You asked as he walked up to the counter. He nodded, fishing out the exact change from his pocket. You grabbed the money from his extended palm and handed him his receipt before making your way to the coffee station.
"So you come here every day after school?" You asked. He nodded.
"Yeah. Before school and after school. Sometimes in the middle of the afternoon as well. Especially if I've got a test to cram for." He replied. You laughed.
"God I feel you there. Cram sessions are awful." You said, finishing up writing his name on the sleeve. You handed him his cup and smiled.
"Have a good day Richie." You said. He eyed your nametag before smiling back.
"You too (Y/n)." He replied.
He turned and began to walk out, a feeling of warmth washing over his face. He was beginning to feel a stupid feeling he hadn't felt since fifth grade. On his walk home, he kept thinking of you, and that led him to remember your misspelling of his name. And sure enough, when he checked, you'd spelled it with a y again. Damn. Tomorrow I'll definitely remember.

Richie continued visiting the cafe for months, and he began visiting just as much for you as for the coffee. Yet it seemed every single time he got so wrapped up in talking to you that he always forgot to tell you that you were spelling his name wrong. And the few times he had remembered, he stopped himself from telling you because he wondered if it was too late. It would be weird to bring it up so far into their interactions.
Today was the first day in June, so it was just beginning to warm up. And seeing as summer was still kicking off, he thought he'd treat himself to a muffin. He pushed open the door and his ears were met by the soft ding of the bell. He looked to the register and smiled when he saw you.
"Hey Rich, just your regular today?" You asked.
"No actually. Today I'll take a large iced caramel coffee and a chocolate chip muffin." He replied. You raised your eyebrows as you typed into the register.
"Feeling adventurous today, are we?" You asked. He laughed before pulling money out of his pocket. You eyed it suspiciously.
"Oh don't tell me." You said. He gave a coy smile and nodded.
"Exact change." He said. You sighed and grabbed it from him, stuffing it in the register with a shake of your head. You handed him the receipt and made your way across the kitchen to start his coffee. He waited patiently and once you finished, you grabbed a muffin and handed them both to him.
"Thanks (Y/n)." He said with a smile. You nodded.
Richie walked to a table situated by the windows of the shop, wanting to sit down and enjoy his purchases. He took a bite of his muffin and a sip of his coffee, reveling in the delicious taste. He came to realize that no one made coffee like you. Whenever he came in on shifts you didn't work, he became less enthused. It was good, it just wasn't yours.
Richie heard the sound of a chair sliding against the wood floor and looked up, surprised to see you. You gave a small smile but kept your hand on the top of the chair.
"Can I sit?" You asked. He couldn't seem to fish the words out of his throat so he simply nodded.
"I'm on break so I thought I'd join you." You said. He smiled.
"Lucky me." He replied before taking another bite of his muffin.
"I hope you don't mind that I didn't write your name on the cup. I figured since you come here so often and the shop isn't too busy it wouldn't be a big deal." You said. Richie looked down and saw that, in fact, his misspelled name was nowhere to be seen.
"I don't mind. It's actually better that way, considering you always use the wrong vowels." He replied. You raised your eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" You asked. Richie pursed his lips. There was no going back now.
"Well, my name is spelled with an ie, not a y. I forgot to tell you when you first started serving me and then I just thought it was too far down the line." He replied. You let your jaw drop slightly.
"Oh my God, are you serious? I can't believe you didn't tell me sooner." You said with a laugh. He laughed with you.
"Okay, next time you come in, your coffee is on me. And I swear, I'll spell your name right this time." You said. Richie smiled before setting his muffin on the table.
"How about instead, tomorrow I buy lunch and you repay me by joining me." He suggested. Your cheeks flushed slightly as you crossed your arms.
"Like a date?" You asked. He smiled and nodded. You pretended to think for a bit but you already had your answer.
"Deal. But can we go somewhere better than this shitty coffee shop?" You asked. He placed a hand over his heart, feigning hurt.
"Hey! For your information, I happen to love this place." He replied. You shook your head.
"Like I'd respect the opinion of a coffee addict."
