Three Years Later

"Fucking hell," I huff as my translator, Josh Devine, tries to quiz me on my French. We are half an hour from our destination, I am pretty fluent, but he is trying to fine tune. I am about to punch him when Paul, my driver, speaks.

"Sir?" He calls, looking in the rearview mirror.

"Yes, Paul?" I sigh, looking towards the front of the limo.

"We are getting close, I suggest that Lou should start refreshing your hair and such. Whatever she does." Paul says, ending with a quiet chuckle.

"Well, you heard the man, Lou. Get primpin'." I say, looking to my stylist, and practically my manager. She does everything from picking my outfits to keeping track of my schedule. She smiles, chuckling along with Paul. Josh tries to continue to test my French, so I turn to him, "Josh, I swear to everything royal, and holy, if you keep speaking I am going to punch you in the nose." I narrow my eyes at him, and he gulps. He scoots away from me as much as he can in his seatbelt, and grabs his water. I roll my eyes and look back to Lou. She has a hairbrush, and a smile. Here we go.

Twenty-five minutes later Lou is done and we have arrived. The twenty minutes was full of jokes about my groans of pain from Josh, and a lot of tugs on my hair from Lou. I start to get up, but Lou stops me.

"Wait! Zayn, I have to put on your crown!" I roll my eyes and sit back into my seat. Lou frowns at me. She pulls out the box and hands it to me, I know the code she doesn't, no one but me does, safety, ya' know. I type in the code, it's 7-10-1-12, Perrie and I's birthdays. It makes me miss her. It's been two, maybe, three years, but I still miss her.

I open the box and hand it to Lou. She takes out the crown and I lean down so she can place it on my head. It's not the official "Royal Crown Jewels", it's just something I wear to galas, and events. It's a simple silver crown with blue jewels. My father had it made specially for me, it's in memory of Perrie. I sit back up and Lou nods. I look to Josh who smiles.

"Your Majesty?" The door opens and Niall's voice rings through the limo. I put on a smile and walk out the door of the car. There are three body guards, plus Niall, waiting for me. I step out of the limo and follow Niall, flanked by the other guards. Josh hurriedly gets out of the car and follows beside me. We are entering Chatêau De Chambord. There is a ball that I am attending to keep up appearances and show our alliance and peace.

I'm not sure who all is going to be in attendance, but I do know Eleanor Calder, the princess of France will be here. Her parents as well. My parents want me to court and marry her, if I do, I will join our two countries. Unity. Woo.

"Smile, Zayn." Josh bumps my shoulder, and I snap out of my sarcastic thoughts and plaster another smile on my face.

After my arrival announcement, first in French, then in English, I was swept along by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He introduced me to a lot of dukes and duchesses, a few CEO's, and the other government officials. I danced with four duchesses, two ministers of something, and then I am introduced to the King and Queen. It was a fine exchange with Josh involved. I was nervous and my French is sub par when I'm nervous. I've been closely followed by Niall and Josh all night. Finally I am introduced to the Princess.
