I blinked and looked into the mirror. My bright green eyes stared right back at me, I tilted my head and watched my reflection do the same. I was missing a freckle, I was sure of it. I squinted my eyes and moved closer to the glass and counted. Nine. I had ten a week ago.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and took a picture of my face, there was no way I was missing one. If I was then it is time for documentation. I want to have proof for when and if I lose another one. I looked at the picture and sent it to my best friend Adam.

Adam: Any reason you sent me a picture of your face?

Jen: I am missing a freckle.

My phone started to ring and jump in my hand, I swiped my finger across the screen.

“I am so not joking with you.” I say into the phone.

“How could you be missing a freckle? They don’t just disappear overnight.” Adam says in my ear.

“I do not know what to tell you but one is gone!” I nearly yell into the phone.

“Get down here, I just pulled up.” I hear Adam say as I hear a beep from the call ending.

I huff at my reflection, sending my bangs into a fury over my forehead. My skin seemed to be turning to a more porcelain like color, nearly perfect. The only thing on my face that could be considered a flaw at this point are my freckles and now they are slowly disappearing.

I grab my sandals by the straps and my backpack in unison as I rush out my door to the kitchen. I grab my thermos and fill it up with coffee and pull my lunch out of the refrigerator. I hear foot steps behind me and whirl around to see that Adam has come in and leaning against the counter holding my thermos taking a long drink.

“Hey!” I shout as I jump over to pull it away from him.

“Snooze you lose!” Adam yells and he grabs a bagel from the fridge behind me and dashes to the front door.

I shake my head and grab another thermos and fill it up, taking another bagel and rushing out to the car.

I close the top of the thermos so that none of my coffee can spill out as I run hard at the car, I jump at the last moment and slide across the hood of Adam’s brand new Corvette. I land on the passenger side of the car and smoothly open the door and slide in.

I look over to see that Adam has one eye brow raised slightly. I just smile and take a bit of my bagel and sip my coffee. He shifts into drive and we are off.

Adam and I go to North View High, located on the edge of a little city called Clearmount. Basically it is an unheard of city that no one really knows about but is a mix up of NYC and LA. Full of the rich, talented and beautiful. My parents are both doctors and Adam’s mom is a lawyer and his father a banker. We both live life styles that leave you not wanting or needing anything and we are both great full for it. Some of the other people we go to school with are not like us but since we both happen to be the richest, we are left alone which is fine with us.

Adam has four siblings with him directly in the middle. His older brother Josh is a NFL player, his sister Sarah is an international model. He has twin brothers that are both ten that seem to be mad scientists at this point. They are always experimenting and blowing things up, on accident of course. It is like a crazy, mad house with the twins running around and Josh and Sarah home occasionally. Adam’s mom Jules is home every night, so is her husband Aaron.

My family is a bit different though. My parents, Jack and Diane are constantly at the hospital working. They are both important doctors and are on call a lot and barely get time to be home. I was adopted, which is fine but I also don’t have any siblings. It would be a little lonely but with the Delatrix family I don’t have time to be lonely.
