The moment Carter's combat boot stepped onto the red and white checked tiles he was whisked away into a different world, a different time, a time of full dresses, cravats, coattails, and corsets.
Through the crowd of people milling about and talking and laughing enthusiastically, someone court Carter's eye, a girl, as she walked towards him (which almost seemed more like flouting) he noticed her sparkling hazel eyes and brown hair with golden flecks which was tied up in a braided bun with a curled fringe, she wore a pale blue dress with white lace on the neckline and sleave hems.
She smiled a gap-toothed smile at him that he couldn't help returning.
"Good day sir" she said curtsying slightly, there was sincere and joyful laughter in her voice.
Carter couldn't help think how out of place he must look in his street clothes amongst the beautiful costumes everyone else wore. But when he looked at down at his hoodie and jeans they had been replaced with a dark blue coat, a long Cream coloured vest, a white cravat, bone coloured breeches, and heeled shoes he even had a tricorn hat in his hand.
The girl smiled again "when the dancing begins won't you join me?"
"Of course my lady, through aren't I the one supposed to ask you that?".
"Yes, I suppose you are but if I wait for you to ask me I might not get any dancing done and that would be a horrible shame".

The sound of Carter's mother calling to dragged him out of his daydream. there he was again in his combat boots and hoodie.
"I'll pick you up at 4, okay?".
"Okay mum" he called back waving to her. "Okay, Hayley. show me around your new place" Carter said turning back to the girl.
"Oh, of course. welcome to my very humble abode" Hayley said grinning that same gap toothed grin and stepping back to let Carter in.
