"Hey Betty, how long till we reach Ilhana hill?" I asked.
"Just a few more minutes, Emily."
*Fifteen minutes later*
"Hey guys, we reached the campsite!" Said, Betty.
I didn't know if it was just me, but I felt like someone or something was following us. I wanted to look back, but I decided it was nothing and tried to enjoy my time there.
We were going to stay in a tent. Betty's father had bought the campsite for us, so it was just me, Betty, Nicolette, and Rebecca that day.
We went to our tent and set everything up. We unpacked our bags and went for a hike.
When we reached the foot of the mountain, I could hear something behind us again. This time I was more scared.
"Guys,......I think someone is following us........."I said.
"Hahaha, don't be such a scardey cat, Emily!" Betty said, not paying much attention to what I said.
As we walked up the hill, the footsteps stopped. I was so happy. After we reached the top of the hill, we all sat down next to each other looking at the view.
"Remember when we were ten years old, I would have never thought we would have come like this without parents when we were only 16." Nicolette said
"Yeah, I'm glad we did this. We should do it again." Said, Betty. Then we all promised each other that we would go there every year.
After an hour, we made our way back to the tent because it was starting to get dark and chilly out.
At the foot of the hill, I heard footsteps again. It was much creepier at night.
We reached our tent and set everything up. We got into our sleeping bags and spoke for hours. There was one moment of silence in the tent when the tent started moving. It felt like a person was moving it. We should have gone outside and checked it out or called someone, but all of us were too scared. Nicholette and I were too scared, and Betty and Rebecca thought it was just the wind.
After this, all of us decided to go back to sleep.
The next day, I woke up to Nicholette shaking me like crazy. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at her. Her face was so pale like she had just seen a ghost.
"What happened?" I asked. It was at least nine in the morning by now.
Nicholette still wasn't talking and just kept pointing at Betty, who was on the other side of her.
"Yes, I know, Betty is sleeping." I said, still very sleepy.
"Betty...... blood..." That was all Nicholette said.
"What??" I said getting up to look at Betty.
Betty looked like she was sleeping, between Nicholette and Rebecca. A knife was in her stomach surrounded by blood. There was blood on the floor around her.
Both of us woke up Rebecca. She had the same scared expression as us. At this point, Nicholette was crying, and we decided to go out of the tent first. I tried unzipping the tent, but it was stuck. It seemed to be jammed from the outside.
We sat there for ten minutes crying. Our phones were out of battery. We suddenly heard the tent door unzip. It was Betty's dad who had come to pick us up. He saw us all crying, and his daughter in the middle with a knife in her. He screamed and told us all to get out. We told him everything that happened. He called an ambulance there and told us all to get into the van.
*A year later*
"Today last year, we promised to go to that hill every year..." Rebecca said.
"There is no way I am going back there. They haven't found who did it, they could still be there." Nicolette said.
We all wish that we didn't decide to rent the whole campsite for ourselves.
