"I have a really pretty view of the sunset from my backyard, wanna go watch it together?" You asked. She smiled.
"Sure." She replied as she sat up. You followed closely behind and slipped on your sandals. After she got hers on, you lead her through your house and to the back door.
You stepped outside and sat on the bench that was placed at a perfect angle for sunset watching. You sat down and patted the spot next to you, which she happily accepted. She lifted her head slightly, gazing wondrously at the beautiful ombre of oranges, pinks, and yellows.
"Intrusive thought." She whispered. You smiled at her words. It was a sort of tradition you had adopted in the amount of time that you knew her. When you had a thought that came out of nowhere and you couldn't stop thinking about it, you'd say intrusive thought and share it. You both did it more often than you'd like to admit.
"I really want a partner." She continued. You laughed.
"Wow, same." You replied.
"People are just... Great." She said quietly. You smiled and glanced at her.
"Yeah, but I think since things didn't work out with me and Richie, I'm gonna find a girl. Try to at least. Girls are just... They're so much easier to talk to. You can like, let your guard down with them."
"Yeah." She replied. You exhaled. You didn't want just any girl though. You wanted her. But it's not like you could ever tell her that. You cleared your throat.
"We should head back inside, I still want to show you that poem I wrote." You said as you stood up. Her face brightened.
"Oh, yeah!" She replied, quickly jumping into action. You gave a small smile before starting to make your way back inside your house. Once you got into your room and shut the door, you began to sift through your bookshelf, searching for the small leather-covered journal. After a good minute, you finally pulled it out with a sigh. You handed it to her and shrugged.
"Go easy on me?" You asked quietly. She laughed before opening the book and turning to the correct page. Your heart thumped loudly as her eyes ran over the paper.
The Girl with the Soft Voice
She's sweet
And surely beautiful
And I imagine
Her lips taste like honey
And that she smells of vanilla
And her heart beat makes you feel at home
But
It seems
The girl with the soft voice
Is just
Not
For me
Maybe
She is unattainable
In one way or more
Or maybe
She is too delicate of China
For my clumsy hands
Or perhaps
There is one
Keeping us apart
But whatever the reason
She is not mine
And I am not hers
I will forever
Hold in my heart
The girl with the soft voice
"This is... really good." She said. You looked down and scratched your neck.
"Thanks," You said quietly. She looked up at you.
"Who's it about?" She asked. You raised your eyebrows and looked at her.
"What? No one." You replied nervously. She gave you a quizzical look before shrugging.
"Whatever you say (Y/n)."

The sun had long since set and would soon rise. Your alarm clock read 5:02. It was early, but you couldn't sleep. Not with Beverly so close. There was little light in your room but you could still see her, and by god she was beautiful. Then suddenly, before you could stop yourself, you said it.
"Intrusive thought." You whispered. She opened her eyes and looked up at you, silently telling you to continue. Your cheeks turned red and you looked away. How stupid.
"Nothing... Nevermind." You replied. You felt the bed shift as she propped herself up on one elbow.
"No, tell me." She replied. You glanced at her before swallowing.
"It's just... I find it kinda funny that we both talked about how badly we want significant others all day." You said, avoiding eye contact.
"Yeah..." She continued.
"Maybe we could..." You started, but you lost words halfway through. What am I doing? The last time I did this I got rejected.
"I don't know..." You trailed off.
"I think I get what you're saying and honestly, I feel the same way..." She whispered. You could feel your breath catch in your chest and your heartbeat in your throat.
"So, what do we do now?" You asked your words so quiet she could barely hear.
"Partners?" She asked. You smiled wider than you ever had and you felt like crying. You didn't know why and you obviously wouldn't let yourself, but that's still how you felt.
"Partners." You confirmed and grabbed her hand. You felt the bed shift and you could tell she sat up. You looked at her and before you could ask what she was doing, she was leaning down and pressing her lips on yours.
You wanted to kiss back but you were so surprised that you didn't get the chance. This was your first real kiss and you never thought it would feel so nice. Her lips were soft and as you finally comprehended what was happening, she pulled away.
"Did you... Oh my god..."
"Are you okay? Was that... Okay?" She asked timidly, worried she did something wrong.
"No, that was... Great, I'm just... First kiss... Jesus..." You replied. You were speechless and she laughed.
"My god you're adorable."
