Her head in her arms, seven-year-old Sienna Michaelson sighed. On the table in front of her were the envelopes with the invitations to her Shopkins birthday party enclosed in them. She was about to celebrate turning 8 years old (which she considered an awesomely neat milestone in her life). Unfortunately in this case, it seemed, she'd be doing so with just her mother.

And there was a not-so-good reason for that. The kids at her school didn't understand her having to wear dental spacers in her mouth to keep her teeth straight, which eventually led to them bullying her and teasing her.

Even worse was that when she got to school, she had attempted to hand out the envelopes with the invitations to her birthday party. But her attempts ended in failure, because not one single classmate would take them from her. Instead, every time she came up to a couple of them with the invitations, they would make it a point to turn away from her. Shun her. Pretend as though she wasn't even there.

It was social rejection at its worst — at least from her perspective.
