Listen When You Can't see

Chapter 1 ~Grow up~ REIGN

*Third person*

The old shoji door slides open light floods into Reign's room from the lamp her master holds.

"You overslept." Urokodaki speaks loud and quick.

The five year old rubs her eyes tiredly. "Sorry master I couldn't sleep all night I will train hard today."

"Get up, top of the mountain before the sun comes up." Urokodaki exits leaving the door open. 

Reign quickly gets dressed strapping on her two katana, swiftly putting up her hair. As she walks out the door Urokodaki stops her.

"Where is your cloak, you can not be touched by sunlight Rei." He holds out a cloak that is a bamboo hat covered with a sheer black fabric that protects her from the sunlight.

She straps it to her side, putting her hands securely on her katana handles. Without a word she jumps up into the trees scouting out her path. She takes a deep breath the spring air filling her lungs. She loses focus when a drop of morning dew lands on her nose. She lifts her head seeing a Lidth's Jay sing a sweet song above her head. Within a second she's holding the bird in between her fangs. The blood dribbles down her chin.

"Focus Rei." Urokodaki says from the ground.

She spits out the bird wiping off the blood and spit on her face, she puts her cloak on. She jumps from branch to branch not looking down once as traps fly her way. She cuts through the sharp spears of bamboo like butter.  She misses the next branch by an inch falling into one of the manmade holes. She lands on her stomach with a small grunt. She flips out of the hole with an angry grunt. The sky is starting to get lighter, she still has five more miles to go. She sprints up the mountain focusing her breathing and closing her eyes. She dodges snares and camouflaged drops. Within ten minutes she is at the summit. She lets the cloak cover her face as the sun rises over the top of the mountain.

*First Person*

"This is also one of my students, Reign Kibutsuji. She will be joining your night training." Master says putting his hands on my shoulders.

"Tanjiro Kamado." The boy in front of me says bowing low. "But Master why only the night classes?"

I move the cloak from my face showing my face. He steps back partially.

"As you can see, and from your reaction, yes I am a Demon. Now I don't think you have anything to be afraid of, I was raised here. and I don't like human blood. It's too thick." Just thinking about it makes me gag. Disgusting. "You see I'll be training at night and sometimes in the afternoon when the sun is behind the mountain." This boy has a demon with him, I can smell it... 

"Come inside, we'll start your training after we eat." Both of us follow him inside. "Rei, you know where it is." 

He already had stew cooking but let the fire die before he went to get this boy. I couldn't care less, I'm not eating it. I bow to both of them before going to take the boys basket from him.

"I could take that to your room if you'd like." I say calmly.

"Uh actually since its night time..." He sets the basket down on its side. When the top opens a small girl crawls out of it. Well a small demon girl. She looks up at me with a curious look on her face including a bamboo muzzle. I crouch in front of her. She lightly taps her forehead against mine. She blinks twice then lays down on the floor and closes her eyes. "Nezuko?"

"Looks like your Nezuko has fallen asleep." I say stating the obvious. "Would it be alright if I took her to your room now?"

Tanjiro nods slowly. I scoop her up carrying her to his room, right next to mine. She stirs a bit but does not wake up. I lay her down and walk back out. I slowly take off my cloak hanging it on a hook by the front door. I go to my room, Urokodaki had captured a bird a squirrel and a rabbit. I can tell from the smell from the box he had put them in. I close my door not wanting to disturb their conversation with the sound of dying animals. That sounded worse than it actually is. I pick up the box letting the critters out.

After I've cleaned everything and put the corpses in a separate bucket. I wipe off my hands and bring the bucket out the back door dumping it in the stream behind the house. I wash the bottom of my kimono while at it. When I come back in Tanjiro looks a bit uneasy. 

"I smell blood, and death." He says quietly.

"See I have to kill animals, if anyone else kills them they bleed out and well I get all my energy from animal blood. So I could eat regular human food but if that's all I eat? I'll die within a week."

"Oh..." Is all he says.

"Well how about we start training, first off..."

(a/n) Yay! First chapter done! Okay while writing this I had like no inspiration so that's why it is so bad. So I promise when I have more inspiration and writers block isn't being a bitch I'll be back. For now... Take it away Kaity! -N <3
