"Seriously? I asked-" Your words stopped as you looked at who opened the door.

"Malcolm!" You shouted happily. You sprang up from your bed and ran to him. He laughed quietly as you jumped into his arms.

"I missed you too, sunshine." He said. You tightened your arms around him and exhaled loudly.

"I hate that you have to leave so much." You said quietly. He sighed.

"I know. I do too, but hey, I'm here now and that's what matters. So, instead of wasting time on tears, let's have fun! How does hot chocolate and a walk in the park sound?" He asked. You leaned back slightly so he could see you and nodded. He smiled before kissing your cheek. He pulled away and stared at you before furrowing his eyebrows.

"Have you been crying?" He asked. Your eyes widened before you swallowed.

"Heh, yeah. What can I say, I really missed you." You replied with a shrug. Malcolm laughed and set you down.

"Alright. Go bundle up, we need to make the most of our time together." He said. You nodded and ventured to your closet to find clothes.

You rubbed your glove-clad hands together and breathed into them, letting the warm air cover your pigmented nose. Malcolm slowly walked towards you, a cup of hot chocolate in each hand. He gave one to you with a smile. You returned it quickly before holding the cup to your lips. The warm liquid met your mouth and you sighed, a euphoria you would never get tired of. You turned towards Malcolm who had a fond smile on his face.

"What?" You asked with a laugh. Malcolm shook his head.

"Nothing. Walk?" He asked and held out his hand. You smiled and nodded, grabbing his hand and slowly walking down the snow-covered sidewalk.

Your small talk was nice but short-lived. You asked about his music and he asked about school, but you found that, like always, the content silence was the best. Just being in the presence of each other always seemed to be enough. More than enough, really.

The trees were dusted in the frost of winter and you came up to a bench. Malcolm began to slowly scrape off the snow. He stopped when there was enough room for one person. He sat down and pat his lap. You laughed before shaking your head and sitting on his knee. He smiled and wrapped his arms around your stomach before laying his head on your shoulder.

"Hey." He whispered. You glanced at him before smiling.

"Hi." You replied.

"Guess what." He said.

"Hmm?" You hummed.

"I love you." He replied. You smiled but before you could respond, he continued.

"I love you and your rosy cheeks, I love you and your (h/l) hair, I love you and your (r/f). Every single part of you. I love you so much." He said. As you listened to him say this you couldn't even bear to glance at him.

"Even if I wasn't who you thought I was?" You asked, your voice barely louder than a whisper. He lifted his head from your shoulder.

"What do you mean?" He asked. You swallowed before you pried yourself from his arms and stood up. You looked at his confusion-ridden face.

"Would you love every part of me the same if I wasn't who you thought you'd fallen in love with?" You asked. He stood up and grabbed your hot chocolate from your hand, setting both his and yours on the floor. He grabbed your hands.

"I don't understand what you're asking, but the answer is yes. I will always love you, no matter what."

Tears began to form in your eyes as you heard this. You leaned your head onto his chest, wrapping your arms around him and beginning to cry. He raised his hand, slowly combing it through your hair.

"I'm not a girl. I was born a girl but I'm not... It doesn't feel right when I call myself that. I did some research and non-binary fit. I think... I am... I am non-binary." You said. Your tears came down faster now. This was the first time you said it out loud. I am non-binary. Malcolm pulled away and grabbed your wet cheeks, running his cloth-covered thumb to dry what had fallen.

"I love you. Do you hear me? You could call yourself whatever the hell you'd like, no matter how ballistic, and I'd still love you. Because no matter who you are, boy, girl, non-binary, or anything else, you will always be the person I love, and as long as you love me back, I will be more than happy." He said. You bit your lip and nodded, laying your head on his chest again. You felt like the luckiest person in the world.

"Just call me a cowboy cause it looks like I've got myself a partner," Malcolm said. You laughed through your tears.

"Oh my god, I literally hate you."
