Invaders From Mars - Part Two

Start from the beginning

"My God!" Stepashin exclaims.

"We've got company, Mr Chaney." The Doctor says.

"What is it?" Chaney asks.

"A version of the ship I imagine you have in pieces down below. It's probably." The Doctor explains but Glory grabs Stepashin.

"Get back, all of you." She orders.

"Lady?" The man asks.

"The Professor comes with me." She insists.

"Let him go." The man says as he powers the gun.

"Now, now - don't shoot." Chaney says but the man shoots her anyway, making Glory scream and let go of Stepashin. She is about to fall down.

"Hang on, take my hand." The Doctor says, letting go of Celestia. Glory still cries out. "Take it." He insists.

"I can't, I can't hold on." Glory says.

"Chaney, help me." The Doctor tells him as Glory gasps.

"Okay, okay." Chaney says, walking up to them. "Here lady, grab hold of my arm."

"No good." She says and then she falls down.

"Oh no!" The Doctor says, sounding stressed.

"Jeez. She was a looker too." Chaney says. "Okay, you wise people - downstairs." He tells them. Everyone starts walking downstairs, except the Time Lords.

"Well, Miss Bee, I hope it was worth it, all for Mother Russia." Celestia says, silently. The Doctor takes her hand to give it a squeeze. She gives him a small smile.

"Okay, get inside." Chaney says as they enter the room. "Hell, where is everybody? Ellis? Ellis!" He questions but there's no answer. "You, go see what's up." He orders to the man with them.

"Yes, boss." The man says.

"What about the Martians?" Stepashin asks.

"They're not Martians." Celestia says.

"Oh, this is extraordinary." The Doctor says.

"What is?" Chaney asks.

"I think I know what's going on, and it's quite an amusing coincidence." The Doctor says.

"Do you see me laughing?" Chaney asks him. Then the door opens and a lot of people walk in.

"Well, isn't this nice." The man in front of them says.

"What the hell?" Chaney asks.

"You must think me such a bore, Mr Chaney. It is Mr Chaney, isn't it? I arrive unannounced, gatecrash your little party and then spirit away your special guests." He says as lots of guns cocked. "Steady, boys." He tells the soldiers.

"Who are you?" The Doctor asks, standing in front of Celestia.  "Stay behind me, please. And don't use your powers. These people would never leave you alone if you did." He tells to the Time Lady telepathically.

"Okay, I'm gonna stay silent as well. I don't feel comfortable." Celestia agrees.

"Cosmo Devine. Perhaps you've read my articles in the Tatler." Devine says.

"Listen to me, you lousy faggot. I made a deal for all this space junk and I gave them my word. Don Chaney's word is his bond." Chaney says.

"How touching. Well, well, time and tide, time and tide." Devine says, mockingly. "My associates and I will have to be going. Soldier, get this machinery out of here, then kill them all." He orders.

"Jawohl!" The soldier exclaims.

"Soldier?" Stepashin asks.

"I think Mr Devine's associates are representatives of an unfriendly power, Mr Chaney." The Doctor says.

"Oh, didn't I mention? How remiss. Yes, they're Germans. Pure, one hundred per cent. Unlike me. I'm just what they call a sympathiser." Devine says.

"Lousy Fifth Columnist." Chaney exclaims.

"Just a gossip columnist, actually. Incidentally, I've always wondered, what do the other four columns do?" Devine questions.

"Devine, I implore you not to do this. If you give Nazi Germany this technology." The Doctor is cut off by Stepashin.

"Da, da. This is what I have been saying." He agrees.

"Well, you'll forgive me for being obvious, but that is rather the point, isn't it? They'll be unbeatable. Flying disc ships, death rays. I think they'll have the opposition beat." Devine says.

"I can't let you do it." The Doctor shakes his head.

"Well, boo-hoo. Just how are you going to stop me?" Devine asks. As the soldier opens the tank, they all hear a hiss noise.

"What are you doing? You mustn't unseal the tank." Stepashin says.

"I'm afraid my pals in Berlin aren't worried about the spacemen, Prof. They just want the guns." Devine says.

"But it is priceless, priceless!" Stepashin exclaims.

"My heart bleeds." Devine says, sarcastically. "Okay, junk it, soldier." Then they hear a loud hissing.

"Oh dear." The Doctor says, worry is clear in his voice.

"What's going on?" Celestia asks telepathically unable to see what's happening because The Doctor is blocking her view.

"I can't see anything. Do you think it is dead?" Stepashin asks.

"No." The Doctor says.

"What are you waiting for, Fritzy? Christmas? Get the thing out of there and we'll split." Devine orders.

"Es ist schrecklich!" (It is horrible.) The soldier says.

"Hey-ho. If you want something doing. Here, give me that gun." Devine says as he goes to take a look at the alien. It hisses.

"What in God's...?" Devine asks, shocked.

"How many creatures did you say were in the tank, Professor?" The Doctor asks.

"One. One only." Stepashin says.

"Look." The Doctor points. The alien hisses again.

"Oh no." Stepashin says.

"I think something else has been doing the splitting, Mr Devine. Binary fission. It's been reproducing." The Doctor explains.

"There are?" Stepashin questions.

"Yes. There must be thirty of them." The Doctor says as the aliens makes screeching sound.
