Don't Ever Let it End

Start from the beginning

They stopped at a coffee shop near the stadium and made up stories for the people walking past outside. Y/n loved coming up with stories, Dick knew, and he loved listening to each of them. Her eyes would light up whenever she came up with a good plot and he couldn't tear his gaze away.

Well, I'm tired of pretending, but I'm terrified of it ending
I know if not for you there's nothing I could do, to ever let it end
And I know you feel the same way, because you told me drunk on your birthday
And as you pulled me near, whispered in my ear, "Don't ever let it end."

At some point she turned her head and caught him watching her with a soft expression on his face. She blushed and looked away quickly to hide how flustered he made her, but he had caught the red creeping up her neck.

He'd known she felt the same since her birthday a few months ago. She had gotten very drunk and he, as the best friend, had taken her home. While he was helping her get to bed, she had prattled on about anything that came to mind until she said something that changed Dick's heart forever.

"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" she had mused, brow furrowed in thought.

  Dick had frozen, "Uh... no..."

She had cocked her head to the side, her big (e/c) eyes staring innocently up at him, "Really? Why not?"

  Dick swallowed, "I... I don't know."

She sighed and lay down on her bed, "Well, I love you, Grayson. But don't tell anyone. It's a secret."

  Y/n's POV

Saturday I'm gonna take her out
'Cause her favourite band is gonna play downtown
Gonna sing the song we've all heard, about those two young friends who should have fell in love

The next Saturday, Nickelback was playing at the stadium. Them being yours and Dick's favourite band, the two of you had bought tickets ages ago and were super excited.

You got there early and stood near the stage, buzzing with excitement. When the band came on the crowd roared and you along with it. You grabbed Dick's arm and jumped up and down.

He chuckled at your antics, but you were too excited to feel flustered.

They performed Rockstar first and you sang along at the top of your lungs. Then came If Today was your Last Day, and Follow You Home. Then more and more until you had lost count.

At some point they started your favourite song, Don't Ever Let it End. This song always made you think of Dick. It fit your situation perfectly.

Later on we'll cut through the park
And she can hold my hand 'cause she hates the dark
And we could laugh as we both pretend that we're not in love and we're just good friends

On the way back, you and Dick decided to take a short cut through the park.

Although you were a vigilante, you didn't like nights when the moon wasn't visible, and due to it being a new moon, this was one of those nights. Dick knew of your unease and let you hold his hand as the two of you hurried through the trees.

You giggled a bit when he almost ran into a tree after looking back at you, and he joined in. Your heart felt so full in that moment. You never wanted it to end.

About Sunday night, just her and I
Sitting side-by-side in the full moon light.

Two weeks later it was full moon again and Dick took you onto the roof to look at the stars. The two of you sat huddled under blankets and whispered even though no one would hear you if you spoke  normally. You didn't want to shatter the silence.

"This is beautiful, Dick. Thanks for bringing me up here," you murmured, sipping the mug of hot chocolate in your hands.

  He just smiled.

I pulled her close just to hold her tight, and the both of us could tell it just felt right.

You shivered as a breeze ruffled your hair, despite the many layers you were bundled up in. Dick chuckled and wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you onto his lap, letting you share his warmth.

You relaxed into him, for once not feeling flustered. You just felt at peace. This felt right.

She looked at me in the sweetest way
Like she could tell what the hell I was about to say

Suddenly Dick's arms tightened slightly and he said, "Y/n, I..."

You turned in his lap to face him, eyes meeting his. In that moment you knew he felt the same. You hadn't forgotten that drunken confession of yours a few months ago, you had just been too scared to bring it up.

  But now...

I must have took a while to find the words 'cause she cut me off and finally said it first.

"I love you," you whispered, face so close to his you could hear his breath hitch, "I have for who knows how long."

He smiled softly, hand sliding up your back to cup the back of your head and draw you in.

"I love you too," was the last thing he whispered before his lips were on yours, kissing with loving passion.

You responded with equal passion, arching into him and getting your fingers tangled in his hair.

Well, I'm tired of pretending, but I'm terrified of it ending
I know if not for you there's nothing I could do to ever let it end
Yeah, you know I feel the same way, 'cause I told you drunk on my Birthday
And as I pulled you near, whispered in your ear, "Don't ever let it end."

You don't know how long you were on that roof, but the following morning you woke up to the blue eyes of your best friend and damn you if there had ever been a more perfect sight.

  Don't ever let it end.
