"Hey," Percy said, "How are you?"
"Now that we're out of the underworld...I'm good," Annabeth replied, "Mostly relieved that you're alive."
"I'm sure there were a lot of times where you felt that feeling," Percy said with a smirk, "You know because I'm great at surviving."
"Or because you're great at getting yourself into trouble," Annabeth chuckles. The couple has tried joking around the past few days, to get rid of their dread. It hasn't been working as much as it did before.
"Remember the first time we met?" Percy suddenly asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"Just want you to remember the moment I fell in love with you."
"Nice to know you can actually be a romantic."
"I'm romantic!" Percy protests.
"Okay..." Annabeth says.
"I am! Remember Rome? When I was talking about us having a future together? Or when Hera took my memories, and somehow the only thing I remembered was you. It was because I loved you- still love you so much that I thought about you while swimming in the River Styx, and in Olympus when I was offered to be a god, and when-"
Annabeth cut him off with a kiss. Their lips connect like two puzzle pieces that were meant to be connected. As they break apart, Annabeth says, "I love you, Seaweed brain..."
Percy smiles at the nickname. "I love you too, Wise girl."
Tears start to trickle down Annabeth's eyes to her cheek. Percy wipes them away and kisses her damp cheeks.
"You better not die before we defeat Gaia," Annabeth says, now with a more serious tone. Percy doesn't answer because he knows that he can't make any promises, so instead, he just gives her a brief kiss of the lips and the forehead. That was all she needed. They lock hands and lean their heads on each other's shoulders.
Annabeth thinks more about what Percy has done for her. How he held the sky for her, how he could have let go of her as she was falling to the underworld, but chose to stay- and fall with her. I don't deserve him Annabeth thought as more tears escaped her eyes.
"I don't deserve you..." Annabeth now said aloud. Percy lifted his head off her shoulder and stared at her bewildered.
"What...wait...why..." Percy was stammering as Annabeth remained silent. "For a daughter of Athena, you can be pretty stupid sometimes, Owl face," Percy chuckled, "I wouldn't be able to last a day without you."
Annabeth wiped her tears, "You really mean that."
"Absolutely." Percy wrapped his arms around her. A few minutes go by as they doze off on Annabeth's bed.
"Don't dream too hard," Annabeth mumbles, "You still drool in your sleep."
