But Jason Andrews, on the other hand, said otherwise.
Resting my head on my locker, I thought of the brunette girl with ocean blue eyes who was present on the bleachers throughout practice.
She came, like she said she would.
"You still thinking about that Caroline girl?" Jason asked quietly as my team mates began to leave the locker room. I nodded in response wanting him to go away so I could think about her.
He chuckled darkly, "Well, she'll be mine in no time so get yourself another girl to crush on."
I frowned and glared at him, already boiling with rage, "What the fuck dude?"
I could tell by his smirk that he was enjoying the fact that I had anger issues.
"What? I dont want you to get your hopes high on something unattainable."
My anger flared when he called Caroline a thing, "She's a someone and not a something; you barely know her. She won't go for you." My anger suppressed a little knowing that it was true.
"Wanna bet on it?" He pushed further which only irritated me. He always wanted to piss me off; I'm sure he didnt even like her.
Although Jason and I went way back – from middle school to junior year in high school – , we were polar opposites. People often wondered why we were ever friends in the first place.
"Hell no, I'm not placing any dumb bet on her," I finalized the discussion and turn to leave.
"Just think about it! If she picks you over me then I'll leave you guys alone, but if she doesn't, then you leave us alone. It's a good deal!"
Ignoring him, I walked out of the locker room and into the school hallway.
A while after . . .
There was tension in the classroom as Jason and I watched Caroline stare indecisively at us, trying to decide who she would go out with. The pounding my my chest was the only sound in the room.
Although I didnt accept Jason's offer, he still took it as a competition and like me, he started chasing after Caroline.
"Sorry, Jason, but it's Ayden," she mumbled with her head down, trying to avoid Jason's gaze. A smile immediately appeared on my face which turned into a grin as I watched Jason storm out of the classroom.
It felt good to beat him at something.
Days after . . .
I took one more glance at the mirror before I walked out of my room. Caroline and I were going out today to a place perfect for a girl like her.
I walked into Rielle's room without knocking just to piss her off like always, but she didn't seem to mind as she just grinned at me; the goofy grin that always appeared whenever she was excited.
I studied her carefully, "What's going on?"
She looked like she was about to explode any moment as her cheeks went red. I smiled to myself knowing she was about to crack.
"I know you won't like this, but Jason asked me out and I said yes!"
My smile dropped immediately on hearing Jason's name, "Why would he ask you out?"
