(This was a contest story btw! It won the contest, but the other stories were really good too! ^^)
I was walking to my new school with Akumu beside me, constantly yawning or complaining about how boring it is here. She hadn't been here for a full day yet she's already bored. Her black tail was swishing from side to side all the time, and her curved horns were sharpened again.
"Yume, can I make you float this one time?" She asked.
"How many times do I have to say no, Akumu?" I said, more frustration in my tone than I meant.
"Sorry." She plainly replied, continuing to walk. She was annoying sometimes.
When we reached my school, Akumu immediately sighed as she looked around. Nobody had a demon with them. I saw many people talking to angels, playing with some, even flying with their own. My mom hadn't said anything about me having a guardian demon instead of an angel to the principal, so I felt really weird, being the only one with a demon. I immediately knew that I would be known as the "demon freak" or something like that, since Akumu isn't the nice type. A nice demon would've been an angel in disguise or something, but no. Akumu was watching everyone else having fun while I was just here, standing with a demon like an idiot.
"Um, Yume?" She suddenly said.
"What?" I replied.
"Why are there no demons here?"
"Because everyone's supposed to have guardian angels, but the world made a mistake with me. I ended up with you instead of an angel."
"At least I don't need sleep, angels do. Plus, I can attack someone if they attack you. Angels can't do that, they'll just try to friend them like some kid."
"That's what you were supposed to be!"
"Hey, I'm awake 24/7!"
"I don't care!"
We started arguing, so of course some people had to see and freak out. You see, I was the only person on earth who had a guardian demon. Everyone else had an angel. Demons are considered assholes and thieves, but Akumu isn't a thief. I can't say the same about not being an asshole, though.
"Hey, stop arguing! Why are you even arguing? That's a stupid thing to do and only idiots do that!" I heard a voice say.
"Well then we're idiots!" I exclaimed.
"Hey, we can sort this out, we don't need you being angry at each other. An angel and a human always get along!" I heard another voice say. This voice was softer and sweeter than the last one.
"Do I look like an angel?!" Akumu shouted, activating the glowing stuff in her horns and tail. I have to admit, they did look pretty when they were glowing. It was usually a soft, lavender glow. Now it was a pearly white glow.
"Everyone run!" Someone exclaimed. I sighed and looked around. People were running away from me and Akumu, screaming like their life depended on it.
"Y-you won't hurt us... Right, miss demon?" Somebody stuttered.
"Depends on if you decide to be an asshole and hurt this bitch here." Akumu said and pointed at me. Sure, she was annoying, but I have never gotten attacked or hit because of her, so I'm thankful for that.
Luckily, there's different kinds of angels, so she has a different reaction every time. I heard the bell ring so I dragged Akumu inside with me, and we walked straight into the wall.
"Why do you go to this place, anyway?" She asked when I was staring at the different doors.
"Because humanity is a bitch and a half." I simply replied.
