The Light of the Rising Sun

The gulls are crying,

The sun is shining in the window with a gentle breeze,

Waves can be heard clashing in the distance behind you,

But it's nothing to worry about, it's a new day.

Good morning dear,

Wake up, it's time to see through to our happily ever continued.

I never can get enough of those big beautiful eyes of yours turning to copper in the light.

They're as large as your heart, seeing everything and nothing all at once, never not giving a fuck.

So sweet and sly,

I never could get enough of them. I never would, if I were in luck.

Flashback, I remember when we thought it was the end.

Strung out on myself,

Thinking there's something killing me inside,

Ripping into my own flesh, digging, digging, digging, digging.

One more drink to numb the pain, One more drink for the road,

One more drink for the dread.

One more drink so I can be dead.

I can still remember the fear in your eyes,

The loathing.

I could never forget the pain of a wounded beauty.

You ran out into the street,

I followed you and hung on.

I could remember wondering why.

Why hang on when I know you'd be better off without this black hole heart.

I can never knew how mad I was,

Until somehow you pulled me out of the black.

Now my heart's ice blue and ink black.

You carried me to the ocean with the little breath we had,

The water was so cold,

Freezing, freezing, freezing,

In the dark of the night.

I was used to it, having been encased in ice and snow.

But you stood there with me in the cold this time,

Frigid waters all around us,

Waiting, holding on, just a little more, just a little more, just a little more,

I didn't think it was going to be here in time but we never gave up hope.

It's quiet.

Nothing's happening.

Why is nothing happening? Why don't we feel anything?

Patience.

Then out of nowhere,

Something finally gives. Hysterical,

Here it comes,

Like some kind of miracle,

Here comes the rising sun,

Here comes the first day,

Warming the ocean,

It's working, or so I'd say.

The cool breeze rushing through our hair.

I'm feeling better.

You're finally smiling again. Isn't it so nice to breathe in the fresh air?

I can feel the black ink flowing again. It's flowing for you too.

I can finally feel my heart beating once more,

In you.

It's like our first day again, it's like our first day evermore.

But now we're somewhere new.

Now we're some time new.

Here we go again,

It's just like starting over. I always told you time flew,

So we'd just flip the script and flip the hourglass.

Today however,

I'm still lost in the beauty of your eyes.

Oh what I'd give to see the world through them forever.

I can't believe I can.

I can't believe I'm not the only dreamer, and to think I was about to go and let it die inside.

I was starting to lose my imagination,

Then I saw you reach through the might of the black abyss and pull through to the other side.

Suddenly we're waking up together in dreamland,

A place that I didn't think existed.

A future too bright to see coming.

We're going to make it, no, we won't let it be missed.

Because we've made it there before and you know, it feels like an island in the sun.

Even when we didn't,

We just threw it all away,

And ran away.

Off into the night, without limits there's no point in even bothering with the fray.

Under the gaze of the bright side of the moon,

No matter what baby,

You know, one day we're gonna touch down up there soon.

Where there's a house,

With a girl who has the voice of a harp and a boy who's as friendly as Casper.

Just float along with me and the waves of time will carry us to the moon,

Don't you worry, nobody's floating alone. You know because I said so.

I'm holding your hand like I wanted to, and I'm never letting go.
