"(S/n), what's-"
"Please, you've got to hurry." She interrupted and grabbed his arm, pulling him out of the door.
"Hey hey hey! (S/n)! Hold up! What's going on?" He asked before stopping her. She simply pulled his arm frantically again.
"I-I can't explain right now! Just please hurry. It's bad... It's really bad." She said as tears streamed down her face. He didn't know what was happening but from the sound of it, something awful had happened. She continued to pull him until they got to a dark alley. She ran up to a small pile on the floor and kneeled. He looked at what she was staring at and gasped. On the floor, as still as a corpse was you
"What happened?!" He asked and placed two fingers on your neck. There was still a pulse. (S/n) then began to cry more.
"W-We were walking home from the p-park a-a-and these guys... They... They came out and... And..." She trailed off, seeing as she had formed the hiccups. He held his hand up and signaled her to stop. He'd ask you for the story later. For now, he had to get you back to Anteiku. You were losing a lot of blood and it would be fatal if it didn't stop soon. He placed his arms underneath you and picked you up. You weren't heavy but you definitely weren't light. He stumbled a bit before regaining his balance and walking the rest of the way to Anteiku.

You rubbed your eyes and slowly sat up. Where the hell am I? you thought. You looked around the room you were in and suddenly, all the memories of last came flooding back to you. Your eyes widened in fear and you jumped from the bed. You sprinted to the door and threw it open. Just as you did so, you saw Kaneki standing there. You were surprised, to say the least. But after looking at him, you saw a small figure behind him and gasped.
"(S/n)!" You shouted and bent down with your arms wide open. She ran to you and hugged you. You sat on the floor with her in your lap, holding her as close as you possibly could.
"You're okay." You mumbled, tears beginning to form. She laughed and nodded.
"All thanks to Kaneki and that old guy." She replied. You laughed.
"(S/n), breakfast is ready!" Someone called from downstairs. She looked at you, asking for permission. You nodded. She smiled and ran down the stairs, shouting "Is it eggs and bacon?!". As she did, you looked at Kaneki. He smiled although you didn't return it.
"How much do you know?" You asked.
"About...?" He trailed off. You sighed.
"Me," You replied. He shrugged.
"I know you're a ghoul." He said. Your eyes widened.
"If you know then... Why haven't you reported me to the CCG?" You asked timidly. You were more than confused when he laughed.
"Because I am too." He replied and sat on the bed, patting the spot next to him. You were perplexed but sat next to him.
"But... You don't smell like one," You replied. He laughed.
"That's because I'm only half-ghoul." He said. Your eyes widened.
"Really? How does that even work?" You asked, your voice laced with curiosity. He laughed yet again.
"Well. I wasn't always half-ghoul. I was just a regular human, but then I met this girl named Rize. I didn't know she was a ghoul until after I had walked her home. Once we got there, she attacked me. I'm still a bit iffy on what happened next but I guess she died and something happened to me where they needed an organ transplant. There was none available so they used Rize's. That's how I became half-ghoul. I wear this eyepatch because only one of my eyes turns black when I'm hungry, so just in case, no one will see." He explained. You crossed your legs and fumbled with your hands.
"Wow. Are you still able to eat human food?" You asked. He shook his head.
"Huh, I can't imagine what that must be like. Once just a normal person and then being turned into a monster." You replied and hugged your knees to your chest. He looked at his feet.
"(S/n) is human, right?" He asked. You nodded whilst he smiled.
"Well don't you think a monster would've eaten her by now?" He replied. You shrugged.
"That was my original plan," You said. Tears threatened to come out as the harsh memories replayed in your mind. He placed a hand on your shoulder.
"What do you mean?" He asked, clearly concerned. You sighed.
"When my mom was about six months pregnant with me, she got really sick. She only got worse as time progressed, but the doctor said that she would be okay. My dad was more than happy, but then she died giving birth to me. My father raised me the best he could. He was such an amazing person. He told me that it was wrong to kill people we didn't know anything about. That they could have a family. So we would watch people, and if they had no one important to them and was overall a bad person, he would kill them. If we were lucky we would find someone who committed suicide. He kept his killing as minimal as possible and things were okay. But then, the CCG got him and he died when I was 10."
"I was panicking. I hadn't eaten in three months and I was getting extremely hungry. And alas, it seemed the gods answered my prayers. I was walking through an alleyway when I saw a little girl, only four years old. She wasn't much, but she would last me about five months. So, I pulled out my kagune and went to attack, but then she looked at me with big eyes, laughed, and told me I was pretty. I stopped. My heart sank and I realized what had come over me. I asked her her name and where her parents were. She told me that she had been called (S/n) and that her parents left her there. So, I vowed that I would protect her with every remaining fiber in my body from that day on. It really makes me hurt when I think that I almost killed her."
You told him your story, tears beginning to flow. You wiped them away in hopes that he wouldn't see. He didn't say anything. Instead, he wrapped his arms around you. You stiffened but then you hugged back. His arms held you in a warm embrace that you never wanted to pull away from.
"I talked to Yoshimura. He said you can stay in Anteiku, both of you. We have a spare room you can share with (S/n). You don't have to worry about meals or rent. All we ask is that you help out at the cafe." He said, his hands rubbing your back. You pulled away and shook your head.
"I-I couldn't. That's too much for you to offer me." You said and wiped your tears.
"I wasn't offering. We've already told your landlord that you'll be moving out." He said with a smile. The tears became tears of joy and you hugged him again, smiling as big as you could.
"Thank you," you whispered. "So much." You stayed like that for a while. Until someone cleared their throat.
"Jeez (Y/n), I never struck you as the mushy type," Touka said and leaned on the door frame. You pulled away and laughed, wiping away the remaining tears.
"Come on. You both look like you could use a cup of coffee." She said and walked away. You nodded and stood up. But before you walked out, you turned and quickly pecked Kaneki's cheek. He blushed and put his fingers where your lips had been. You couldn't help but laugh before walking out.
