The First Day of Classes

I woke up not knowing where I was, but then I remembered. It was still dark outside and I knew it would be, at most, an hour before anyone else woke up, so I decided to go and take a shower. I hate not taking one at least twice a day. I gathered up my uniform and took a towel out from my trunk, which my mom and I had put an undetectable extension charm on. I silently walked out of my dorm room, careful not to wake anyone. I slipped down the cold stone stairs and into the pitch black common room, with only the fire as a light, not noticing that Draco Malfoy was sitting in a chair next to the fire.

"Do you always take showers before the sun comes up?" Draco inquired. I jumped.

"You scared me!" I whispered loudly, "and be quiet you will wake up the entire castle."

"Ok, gee, are you always this stressed?" Draco teased.

"Are you always creepily siting in the dark, scaring unexpected girls?" I shot back.

"No. I was just writing a letter." He explained, gesturing to a piece of parchment in his hand.

"Well, nice to know. I need to go, so um… see you at breakfast." I said awkwardly.

"See you later." answered Draco to me as I walked out of the common room.

I took a quick shower and got dressed in my uniform. I stepped slowly to the dinning hall trying to tie my tie, but failed miserably. I decide that I'll just ask someone at my table. When I got to the hall, I saw a few other people. I think it was to early for people to be at breakfast. No one was at the Slytherin table, so I got up my courage and strolled slowly over to the Griffindor table, where a girl named Hermione Granger was sitting alone.

"Ah, excuse me, but can you help me?" I asked her quietly, glancing around.

"Um, are you sure you want help from a mudblood like me?" She asked stiffly.

"I don't really care about blood types. I hate the look of blood it's so...uhh." I shuddered.

"Um, well ok." Hermione replied, puzzled, most likely thinking I was really weird.

"All you have to do is show me," I mumbled.

Hermione undid her tie and then, slowly, showed me step by step how to do it. I finally got it after about ten minutes of failing. "Thanks." I said, relieved, to Hermione

"Any time." She replied.

When I got back to the Slytherin table, Draco was there with his friends and waved to me to come over and sit with them. I took the only open seat, which was across from Malfoy and next to Crabbe.

"So what were you talking to Granger about?" Malfoy asked.

"Oh, she was just helping me with my tie. I didn't know how to tie it, so she taught me." I replied.

"Didn't you ever watch your dad tie his or anything." asked Crabbe, most likely thinking that this was an everyday question.

"He was died in a hit and run accident." I replied shortly.

"Oh, I am so sorry Emily." Malfoy interjected, like he really meant it, "Did they ever find out who did it?"

"No and I don't really like to talk about it." I replied, uncomfortable.

There was an awkward silence, but was thankfully it was interrupted by Professor Snape, handing out our schedules. I saw that mine was, sadly, the same as Draco's. "Great." I thought to myself, "More unwanted conversations with him."

"So what do you have first?" Draco said, breaking the silence.

"Transfiguration," I replied "what about you?"

"Same." Draco answered.

"Well I am going to get my books for class," I said, turning and leaving.

"See you later." Crabbe yawned.

"Bye." I replied, not turning my back.

                                                                                ***

I rushed to potions not wanting to be late, because I got into a heated conversation with my half brother on the way to the dungeons. I walked into potions class 10 minutes late but Professor Snape just ignored me and i took the last open space which was next to a Slytherin girl named Pansy Parkinson. Professor Snape continued with his speech about how there would be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class and who ever does so would be given a detention. Then he proceeded to ask Potter random questions but I figured out that the first question had a hidden meaning: "I bitterly regret Lily's death" I didn't know what that was supposed to mean, so I ignored it.The rest of class went by quickly and was kind of boring.

(Time skip to after Dinner)

I walked out of dinner and was heading to the common room when I walked into Fred and George.

"Oh, hey, we've been looking for you." Fred told her.

"Are you ready to put our first prank into action?" chorused George slyly.

"Of course!" I said happily, smirking.

"Well come on!" urged Fred.

I followed Fred and George through about 5 secret passageways. Then, Fred and George stopped suddenly and I bumped into George. I quickly apologized, but Fred shushed me. I uttered a quick spell that made it rain from the ceiling, and Fred and George threw waterproof dung bombs into the hall. Then we quickly left, so we couldn't be found at the sene of the crime.

"How do you know such complicated spells?" Fred asked her, impressed.

"My mom taught me." I responded, and said nothing else.

They gave me puzzled looks, but didn't push it.

"So will you tell us why you chose to be in Slytherin?" asked George eagerly.

"And take away the joy of guessing?" I smirked.

"So that's a no." Fred translated.

"Yes, it's a no." I confirmed, "now if you will don't mind, I have to go to my common room and work on my homework." I left quickly and headed to the Slytherin common room.
