I Spy

Sometimes spying on low-level royals can be so boring. But....when you need money you do what you have to. I'm no better than a cop on a steak out when I work. In fact, that's almost exactly what I am. I can't respectfully call myself a spy. I'm not James Bond. I'm just a simple man with simply high power binoculars with a night vision camera.

I gaze into the large estate. The top floor has all the bedrooms and a bathroom or two. The mother was in bed. The father was scheming on what new ridiculous law to propose to somehow build his own power. The last one was basically a loophole law that let him raise taxes by a single percent. This man wants more power so bad he's losing sleep over it, but he's only a duke.

The level of the royals goes as follows: first there's the king and queen who have damned near absolute power. After them would be the dukes and duchesses, they have say over their bits of land and the cities and towns within. But of course still must answer to the main royal family. Then you have the priests and priestesses, that have control over individual towns and cities. They are much more like mayors with a religious twist. The next step down is a minion. I think they are what would be the equivalent to knights as they simply work for any of these powerful entities for money....would you like to guess what I am?

Anyhow, the duke's daughter was raiding the kitchen. She was scanning the refrigerator as she dipped a celery stick in a jar of peanut butter and ate it. I watched her, maybe a bit longer than I should have. I'm supposed to be monitoring her father, though as the duke with the smallest amount of land (a population of 5,000 to rule in total) he wasn't honestly worth watching.

Huh....worth? What am I worth in comparison to this family? On my person, I had a nickel, three pennies and a lifesaver. What right do I have to look at the duke's beautiful daughter with her dark hair and pale skin that make her deep green eyes stand out even more....damn it. The duke was gone to bed. I had stared at her all night again. I hope the higher ups don't mind stark notes....and maybe I'll keep a few of these photos to myself.
