7: 30 - 8:00 AM

Something wet and cold- water -splashes Lark's face. She fumbles for her alarm clock. 7:36 AM shines at her from the screen.

"Ahh!", Lark yelps. "What was that for?"

"Gotcha! Happy April Fools Day! Or, should I say, Wet April Fools Day?", her brother, Ben says.

Lark grumbles and gets out of bed. "Go away!", she tells him. Ben trudges out the door, but first he sticks his tongue out at Lark. She quickly pulls on some leggings and a t - shirt. The sweet smell of pancakes waft up to her room, and her mouth waters.

"Lark! Time for breakfast!", her moms' voice calls up the stairs. Lark quickly heads downstairs and takes her place at the table. Jasper, her dog, nuzzles her hand. Jasper is a golden retriever - lab mix and she adopted him from the shelter.

Lark's mom serves Lark a heap of pancakes with maple syrup drizzled on top. "Thanks!", she tells her mom. Mom smiles in response.

10:00 PM - Morning

Lark opens the first book she sees on her shelf and starts to read.

 A Wrinkle in Time.

"In her attic bedroom Margaret Murry, wrapped in an old patchwork quilt, sat on the foot of her bed and watched the trees tossing in the frenzied lashing of the wind-"

Lark pauses to brush her long, wavy, dark brown hair out of her face. The story captivates Lark as she continues. Her eyelids start to droop, but she slaps herself awake. Lark continues reading until she falls asleep.

Daylight streams in through Lark's windows, waking her. She stumbles to her closet to get changed, but before she has a chance to get changed, she overhears her mom's voice. Lark can only catch snippets of the conversation, but she hears enough to understand.

"....aunt.....good place....Lark......new people.....fresh air...away from here...."

"How dare you send me away! To my aunt of all people! I don't even know her! For the fresh air? What am I going to do here, in our house? Die of normal air?" Lark barges into her parent's room. "Is this another prank?"

"Honey, you'll be fine. It isn't a prank, and we think it is for the best. You need to meet new people other than that Jasmine girl who you're always talking abo-"

For the record, Lark did spend a lot of time with Jasmine, but that wasn't the point. Her parents were sending her away, like some sort of weird Christmas gift that they hated.

"Enough about Jasmine! Why are you sending me away?! This is just like in my books," Lark interrupts, her voice cracking.

"Oh, you'll be alright. Now go pack your bags. We're leaving tonight," her mom sighed.

Lark huffed out of the room. She hadn't wanted it to show, but she was kind of excited to see her aunt. She looked so nice in the pictures.
