Hatsune Miku was just another ordinary angel in the realm of the human heavens. While ordinary in ranking, she was beloved by her fellow peers for being kind and optimistic. Miku was somewhat of a celebrity due to her sweet nature, and when anything would go awry between the emotions of some angels, she would be there to settle things out.
Although everything seemed to be fine with Miku's divine existence, she felt like something more could be beyond the gates that could satisfy a growing curiosity deep within her. It was almost like she desired something more, something that could be forbidden, but she brushed it off as a regular curiosity.
Angels were to remain in heaven, at all times, save for Guardian Angels, angels assigned to humans who were either saints in nature, or those who were in danger of losing their lives. Guardian Angels grant miracles to preserve the human soul with continued mortality, until God decided otherwise. Because Miku was neither, she had to remain where she was, no matter what. And because she was born an ordinary angel, it would be rather hard to obtain a higher, divine ranking. Or so she thought.
"Hatsune-san, do you know why you've been summoned?" Arch Angel, Kaito, said. Miku gulped. She was rather nervous because this was the first she had ever been called upon by an angel of such a high ranking.
"N-no, actually, I dont-!" Miku exclaimed. She didn't mean to raise her voice at him, although it was out of pure anxiousness, not of malice. She hung her head in shame, refusing to look Kaito in the eyes.
"Relax, Hatsune-san, you're not in trouble," Kaito chuckled.
"I-I'm not?" Miku raised her head. Although Kaito had reassured her, his piercing icy, cold, blue eyes seemed to stab right into her soul. Miku fidgeted a bit, standing with her fingers interlaced behind her back.
"As of today, you've been granted the status of Guardian Angel. Rejoice!" Kaito said. "Your kind and loving nature has not gone unnoticed!"
"Really?!" Miku was in absolute shock. Her? A Guardian Angel? Was this some kind of cruel joke?
Miku, although seemingly optimistic, always felt like she was kind of not enough for the standards set for her by her peers.
"Oh, wow... this is amazing! I really can't believe it! Thank you so much, sir!" Miku took both of his hands in hers, and shook them vigorously. Kaito looked at her with a dumbfounded look, and as soon as Miku realized her mistake, Kaito reacted. He smiled.
"And as a token of your newfound ranking, we're giving you an exciting assignment! You seem to be very experienced with handling problems in an effective way, so we're sending you down to Earth immediately, to practice your magic," Kaito pulled out a scroll and a feather. He scribbled a bit on the paper, before looking back down at Miku.
"Your first assignment? Protect Megurine Luka like your existence depends on it."
